Coe definitely used blood transfusions to oxygenate his blood. A friend went to his uni and swears he used to go off for his transfusions periodically. Its a well known fact.

Did Coe dope? Very, very likely.
Was it "doping?" No. He never tested positive.
We need a quite a bit more information before declaring it "a fact" though.

While I don't tend to believe rumors like this, I think there is a reason British white men ran 1:41-1:43 and 3:29 for a very short amount of time and has not been repeated since.
Today it does seem odd but when it was happening it didn't appear odd.
If I remember properly during this period there were no rumors or public doubts about the Coe/Ovett dominance.

Why did the Swedes dominate tennis for a few years in the 1980s and then gradually disappear? Were they doping, too?
IN 1983 Coe suffered a prolonged bout with toxoplasmosis.
Definitive evidence of blood doping? No.
A strong indicator of blood doping? You bet.
I always suspected that Coe cheated to beat the more naturally talented Ovett.
A friend of a friend of mine's sister's boyfriend was at the same uni, and he swears that Coe has a friend who used to dig up corpses in the local graveyard and extract growth hormone, which Coe took regularly.

That's not how he did it.
Maybe he did, but even if he did, it wasn't illegal until 1986.

Don't know about that but I do know it was cheating no matter what years it took place.

Oh yes it is! Growth hormone was not available as a medication until the mid 80s. Before that it had to be extracted from cadavers.
I have photographic evidence (taken by a friend of a friend of mine's sister's boyfriend was at the same uni), of Coe's friend sneaking through the graveyard late at night and digging up graves by moonlight.

The best way to oxygenate your blood is to breath in oxygen. You can get all the oxygen you need to run as fast as anyone, but you need to be have world class efficiency to be world class, and then you need to balls to do it.

Imagine if you had more blood though!

Cheating requires breaking a rule or law. I'm glad they banned it, but if it isn't against the rules, it isn't cheating.
If you really needed more blood to go faster, then why does that not happen?
Elites have the same number of red blood cells as any healthy person, even if they are slow.
There are some aspects of sports science that are complete and utter taurine ordure and the ridiculous obsession with blood counts is a perfect example.
I think it is quite difficult to get toxoplasmosis from your own blood.
I agree the feral cats argument feels a bit far fetched though.
this^^^^
Blood transfusion was widely used among the top runners back before mid 1980's. It might be frown upon but it was not illegal. So, when you guys are comparing to the athletes of that era, please keep in mind of that fact.
On the other hand, it is really mind boggling that today's clean runners are faster than those best ones of that era.

No it's not. Look up some videos of how the top guys train these days. You will find that mind boggling, if you need your mind to be boggled.
Ohhh, and I am not sure what PEDs Radcliffe used, but blood transfusion is very likely one of them she used. Remember that half marathon she ran in anemic condition (tested right before the race) and beat the world's best runners (other than her).

Oh, but it does happen.
