Jogging in Iceland was too much for this hobbyist. Does she have a case?

"She says she was invited by Nike to run in the small Nordic island nation in November 2013 through a company-sponsored contest. Nike asked runners on social media to give ideas for their dream location."
If she was invited and accepted the invitation I think she has to be responsible for whatever happened to her.
I read the headline too quick and thought it said "Jager."
This is what is wrong with America. What is her husbands lawsuit btw?

I kind of feel like it's a no-brainer for Nike to pay her medical bills, but could a broken fibula really cost $300,000?
Her husband's part of the suit is hilarious. Check out the details.
the article wrote:
Freeman seeks up to $300,000 for past and future medical costs and lost wages, and up to $750,000 for pain and loss of enjoyment of life. Her husband, Jimmy Dean Freeman, seeks up to $250,000 for loss of society, companionship, consortium and services.
A runner from LOS ANGELES does a trail run IN ICELAND IN NOVEMBER and encounters snow, ice and darkness ... and falls. Unbelievable.
Memo to Nike: Only invite runners from Wisconsin or Maine to your next Iceland run.
Did she keep her trucker hat on?
Is this really that different than competing in a Nike sponsored road race? Don't we all sign waivers that release the sponsor of any damages that occur?
Devil's advocate - Color runs spraying toxic chemicals into the faces of participants, Spartan / mud runs with barbed wire and ropes for scaling tall walls...
The lawsuit is valid if she was running while an employee of Nike. It would be an on the job work injury. However, I don't think she was an employee.

Rojo, you should try to get Jimmy Dean to comment on this. I know the two of them (via both running with him and thru others) and they are both really nice, good people. I would bet if you reached out to him (or her), he would give you some good insight and comments on the entire situation.
"Kate Freeman of Los Angeles filed a lawsuit on Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court seeking $1.3 million from the Beaverton, Oregon-based company.
During the run, Freeman lost her footing, dislocating her ankle and breaking her leg,
"The group relied on Nike's latest apparel and footwear innovations like the Nike Aeroloft Vest, Dri-FIT Wool and Nike Shield Flash Pack to help protect them from the elements," the release said."
CAUTION: RUNNING MAY RESULT IN INJURIES!
Buckle up
If whoever at. Nike organized this run event did not have the runners sign a waiver for risks like this he will likely his his job and Nike may have to pay her medical bills and lost earnings. How does JDF come up with a quarter million dollars for hid wife breaking her leg
If she signed the wauver, I do not see how she has a case.
I would be intersted in hearing how he calculated he is due 250,000.
I went to facebook and saw he noted he is getting anonymous hate email and has 50 plus people offering him support. He did not note the case.
I am cuious to hear more facts about case before i make any juggements.

It's a very complex algorithm that takes into account desired vacation time/destinations for the next few years, as well as the MSRP on a new beamer.
I combined two threads on this topic into one.
people like this ruin it for everyone else. sounds like they botched the guiding, but they can't make her fracture her ankle.
Let me see if I have this right. So Nike asked Twitter followers for their ideas for a dream run. They select some lucky responders to participate in their stated dream runs. One of them participated in a free dream run, paid for by Nike, at the location they specified as their dream run. Said runner encountered normal conditions at the location she specified as a dream place to run and fell in those normal conditions. And now she is suing Nike for a million bucks? No good deed goes unpunished.
According the report of the suit: "The guides became disoriented and lost ... during the run."
So negligence and what-have-you results in risk and danger beyond the circumstances promised when signing up people for their "dream run."
Any waiver, which I expect was required, is thus nullified by Nike's heedlessness--substitute legalisms here.
Husband doesn't get laid because the wife is stove up, so he also has suffered a loss that must be compensated.
This suit is no surprise, is it?

She definitely did not sign the wauver.
I will agree that both are good ppl. have to admit, this is a little out there though, at least for what I know of those two. be interesting to hear more but outside of asking nike to pay for medical costs (and perhaps a little bit of lost wages maybe?), seeems like a little bit of a stretch, to say the least. I doubt jdf would comment at this point, but it would be worth rojo looking into, if he feels like spending the time.
