She ran at Columbia.

Glad to know she'll most assuredly miss both Rio and Tokyo. Get the drug cheats out.
Positive at Berlin ( 2:27:xx )?
This control was taken after Berlin. Results are from Croatian Anti-Doping Agency.
If proven her guilt, Croatian marathon runner Lisa Christina Stublić-Nemec (31) could get a four-year ban

She's american born croatian athlete, holder of many national records. Marathon record of 2:25:44.
I think she was born and raised in CT. Anyone know her HS pbs?

That is an informative change, but I think the phrasing is still a little ambiguous. When I first saw it, I didn't know if Nemec tested positive, or if she was interviewed and had a positive view of doping control (i.e. "I think doping control is necessary and is a positive thing for our sport")
Anyway, it is disheartening when her level of improvement turns out to be fraudulent, especially for all of us who are striving to improve ourselves. It can certainly be done clean, but clearly some people choose a different route.

Is it EPO?
That may be our answer behind the transformation.
Oh, and...
Fuking hell.
Her coach is obfuscating, trying to say there is a negative B-sample, and that a blood test and urine test was negative on September 25th and 27th, but that her positive came October 6th:[quoteThe situation has tried to clarify Lisa's coach Slavko Petrovic. "In Berlin, the first two days before the race, September 25, was the control of blood. Half an hour after the race was to control urine. Both findings are quite clear. And then we are on vacation get positive result? Well, a million percent will prove to be a mistake. He just needs to survive this waiting and uncertainty, "said Petrovic.[/quote]

Not the first of his athletes to test positive:

Different stretching and breathing exercises fixed the problem, and Stublic was able to shave five minutes off her personal best this April in Zurich, running a 2:25:44.Fuking hell.
No different than the claims from NOP on "form" improvement which would involve stretching and breathing as part of the "plan".
Her college 10000 PB is pace for a 2:25. Just in case anyone was wondering how drugs work.
VEry reminiscent of the American girl who had similar improvement (ran for U Washington) and was popped for EPO (only ever for U.S. distance runner until Trafeh) while training with Eddy H in Albequerque.

Rojo
I always thought her improvement was amazing and wondered why she didn't get more press but in the back of my mind maybe 5-10% of my brain did think 'Wait, she's training in Eastern Europe. Is it possible she could be doping?'
IF this ends up with a conviction, I guess the conclusion is everyone has to be viewed as a potential doper, particularly if they are from anywhere in the former Soviet Union/Morocco or Spain.

PS. I changed the title of this thread. It used to be, "Lisa Nemec positive on doping control."
Good. Screw this girl.

It may not have been part of the Soviet Union, but it was certainly part of a communist country in the Soviet era. And as far as Eastern Europe, you will have to take that up with a lot more people than rojo - the wikipedia entry says, "Croatia is an Eastern European country..."

Come on guy. Let's don't over think this. Don't act like one of those guys who thinks they are so smart they appear stupid.
By Eastern Europe, I'm referring to anything east of the Berlin Wall. I'm referring to Eastern Bloc countries.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_BlocYes Croatia wasn't part of the Soviet union but E Germany and all of those communist countries practically might as well have been. So replace Eastern Europe with Eastern Bloc and Soviet Union with pro-Soviet. I think anyone with a brain understood very well what I was talking about.
Technically Croatia is "Southern Europe" according to Wikipedia but geographically it's east of the Berlin wall so I don't think I'm geographically wrong. It's like saying Florida isn't an East coast state. It is but normally "east coast" refers to states that aren't in the southern part of the US.

JK's favorite phrase is something along the lines of, "Plyos and drills. That's code word for doping."
His actual quote might be also include weights in there. But whenever huge improvement is attributed to form changes, someone needs to call WADA.
In retrospect, it looks blindingly obvious - half-decent collegiate runner moves to Croatia, becomes world class - that just screams doping.
Really, anybody improving massively that late in their career draws suspicion. Maybe if they barely trained in college, then suddenly dedicated their lives to running, it would be plausible. But to be honest, I've barely heard of Lisa Nemec, and had no idea she had a prior identity as an unremarkable US collegiate athlete. I can see how she flew under the radar for most people.
The main lesson I take from this case, though, is that I'm really impressed at how effective those drugs (EPO presumably?) were! That's quite a transformation. I'm a guy, not very fast in college, but a fair chunk faster than Nemec's college times for 5k/10k. I trained pretty hard for the marathon, and my best was low 2:30s. I would have loved to hit a 2:25, and was nowhere near doing it. That's some powerful stuff.
What about this guy? Trained under Mick Byrne and couldn't break 14min for 5000m. After stagnating on the roads in the USA for years he moves back to Kenya for 'altitude training' and runs 2:06.
