No. They didn't sponsor that one runner they said they would when he hit some arbitrary standard. Who was that again? Something along the lines of "If runner X runs time Y we'll sponsor him"
Not true. Bobby Mack is the guy. We put up if he broke 27:06, we'd sponsor him as shown here:
https://twitter.com/WritingAboutRun/status/196833105699545088/photo/1That was a very non-specific promise. What does 'sponsor him' mean? It could mean sponsor him for a single race - fly him to Stanford, let him wear the LRC singlet, pay him $500 so like $1k total. We talked to him and he said he was happy running for the local running store. We never said we'd sponsor him at $100,000 per year or anything like that.
So we didn't sponsor him as he wasn't interested in whatever Weldon offered him (I have no idea if Weldon even made an offer but know they talked).
This is very different. We've put out a specific dollar amount out there.
If Mike runs 3:11:45 on a legitimate, non-aided course without doping before the end 365 days pass, of course we'll pay him $100,000.
There really isn't much to debate on this except whether or not he actually does it on a legitimate course and proves he ran it. I'm not paying him if it's another Lehigh Valley situation. There obviously needs to be proof he ran it. If he roller skates a 3:11:45, then know we won't pay him.
