There are some athletes who hit it at the right time. Who had scored the biggest career boost off one sole race or performance? I recall that Peter Rono shocked everyone with a surprise win at the Seoul Olympics but did nothing relevant to capitalize after that. Who did capitalize?

Spangler had The Big One Out Of Left Field, for sure, but also at one point she held both the American Junior Record AND American Masters Record in the marathon!

Actually a woman by the name of Kathrine Switzer and her so called numbered 1st woman at Boston running effort and getting pushed on the course photo have allowed her to milk the running circuit for years. She is still out there today hawking books, seminars whatever else she can sell.

This is where the OP's poor question frame confuses the issue. They are asking for the biggest "One-hit wonder" *OR* "the biggest boost to their career". Two very different questions. Webb and Hall were definitely NOT "one-hit wonders (OHW)", but those races were game-changers. Beamon probably is the GOAT OHW.
