Wonder what the bus ride home was like. Should have made him run through the gauntlet to get on the bus.
Wow, read that article.Look at the second last paragraph. This story is no longer about the runners.
"Furthermore, it is profoundly disappointing that representatives of another Conference member institution that captured the misconduct on video felt compelled to share the incident on social media. The actions of those individuals changed the entire discourse of the GLVC Cross-Country Championships and subsequently damaged the reputation of both our sport and our league."
Wow! Blame the press? What do people think of that? This is not a well thought out statement, IMO. This sends a very bad message.
It is saying "if you see a fight, don't report it. Pretend it never happened because we don't want to have a bad reputation.".
Wasn't this event publicly filmed by a website running site anyways?
I think you have the story/headline wrong.
The guy he punched is not suspended. The guy who is suspended is the guy who ripped off his number which is a different UIndy runner.
The kid who got punched was breaking up a fight between his teammate and got sucker punched. Why would he be out?
Seriously though. A guy sucker punched my teammate he's getting one too. To hell with the race.

He's not out, you have to read the article.

Seems like people are having a hard time keeping track of things... 3 runners were involved here but 2 got suspended. Runner A gets shoved from behind by Runner B, so he tries to rip off Runner B's bib. Runner B tackles Runner A and starts throwing punches. Runner C tries to break it up and in the process gets punched by Runner B as well.
Runners A and B are DQed and suspended, Runner C is not. Runner C was the one who still managed to place 17th and posted the picture of himself on twitter with the black eye.
And Spectator A was filming the race and posted a video of the incident to social media. The Conference said the spectator should not have done this because it makes the Conference look bad.

"Spectator A" is actually a coach of a member institution, which is why the league officials took exception to the video being posted to social media.
If the person who posted that is a coach I agree with the statement.

I'd be interested in hearing some elaboration on the statement that release of the video "changed the entire discourse." What would the discourse have been if the video hadn't been released, and how would that have been an improvement?
Is this just a way of saying "we could have swept this whole thing under the rug and pretended it didn't happen if the video hadn't been posted"? It seems like suspending the athletes involved was the right call, so if he's saying that they would have come to a different conclusion if the video had not been shared, is he saying that they would have made a worse decision if they'd been able to?
Brojos, maybe you should reach out to this guy for an interview to let him clarify his issue.

I have a question, why wasn't Runner D suspended for just standing there waiving his arms around like that robot in Lost in Space while his teammates were getting pummeled?
what did they want to do? wrote:

I think they are saying that it took the focus off the race itself and made the actual conference championship an afterthought to the fight.

Seriously. Runner D should be suspended on GP.

Was anyone really focused on this race? The fight is the only interesting story line here anyway.
Same here. I didn't realize it was a coach.

Here's an actual picture of the event.
