Nope. It happened right here in Minneapolis.
1. Left keys at the car
2. Left phone in car
3. Left wallet in car
Rookie move. I have heard some stories that she is more than a little naive.

When/why did she quit Hanson's? That group seems to be getting smaller, Brooks isn't getting much return on that deal.
She moved to be with her boyfriend. Great kid. She is missed in Michigan. Always good for a laugh.

Actually she moved to train with team usa MN
http://www.teamusaminnesota.org/index.php/athletesThis. I'm pretty sure she realized running at Hanson's was a mistake and was able to find a different team that she could train with. just happened to be the same team her boyfriend is on.

This is just one more in a long list of similar stories. Check with teammates at Hansons or ask Metcalf. He could write a book.
This sounds like a funny book. I hope he writes it as I love funny gaffes!
Why are you guys babbling about Detroit?
Anyway, if the keys were left in the ignition of an unlocked car, with wallet and phone on the passenger seat, that hardly counts as theft.

Taking something that is not yours is theft irregardless the keys being in the ignition.

Irregardless is not a word. Regardless is the word you are looking for.
Is this for real or is she pranking us? In/around Detriot must be a fine place to live and train.

Editor's note> The title initiallyw was "Megan Goethals Phone and Car Stolen in Detroit??? We changed it at it has nothing to do with Detroit"

I heard that she had hidden her keys when she left for a run, and then obviously the person must have dug around and found them.
So kinda like a treasure hunt. That person must have been pumped to dig up a brand new car. Pretty sweet.

No, not by the law.
Hiding keys while going running is common, but sketchy. I do this sometimes but I'm always either parked on an Army base or by a trail.

Totally sketchy. Just carry the key. I carry the key in my wetsuit even when I'm on the water for other sports.

How hard is it to buy shorts with a pocket in the back? Or tie your key to your shoelaces? I mean how stupid can you be? Does she leave her front door unlocked when she runs from her house too?
I see high school kids thinking they're clever by hiding their key in the wheel well or in the gas cap, oblivious to the fact that a) those are the most obvious places to look and b) everyone can see you doing it. I get it with high school kids: they're kinda clueless. But a pro runner?
I don't care if you live in palm beach - you don't just leave your key in (or around) your car! Minneapolis is a super safe city but that doesn't give you license to be a dumb@$$.

I predicted something like this. Whenever Megan is racing poorly you can guarantee that some other drama will appear. In college she was racing poorly and didn't show up to practice for a week and HER BIKE WAS STOLEN. For the next month that was all she talked about. Her freshman year she went public with her eating disorder story after Coach had decided to red shirt her. The weird part is that when racing poorly as a Junior she went public again with the same story. I have no idea what happened in Michigan but I will bet it involved drama it seems to follow her.
yeah cause she obviously was trying to get her car stolen, are you stupid? Give the girl a break. Why are we even talking about this? People have bad things happen to them all the time, she got pretty much all of her things stolen and all you wanna do is make it seem like she deserves it?
Wonder if she was smart enough to have her FindMyiPhone turned on...based on her past tweets she did have an iPhone.
