Huge for NB! He continuing with his degree just not as a scholarship athlete.

Hope to see big things in this guy's future.
What do you think made him choose New Balance over other big sprinter brands like Nike or Adidas? Do you think they offered him a lot more money?
IS there a list of New balance athletes available?
This is a big signing for New Balance. I can't think of a prominent sprinter they've had before and clearly it is their way of trying to be a much bigger player in the game.
To be a huge brand, New Balance is realizing it's not just about making shoes. With that thought in mind I googled "New Balance marketing"
and found this: "New Balance Is Now More Than Just a Sneaker Maker -New campaign positions brand as athletics company"

I recall him saying he would stay in school. Assuming training under same coach and same location. Pretty big signing for new balance. Have they ever had a big sprint name before?
LetsRun.com's article on the signing is here:

Nike $$$ already invested in drug cheats

Yes. Of course. Why do you think anyone signs with any shoe company? People can say whatever they want but it almost always comes down to money.
We have an article up on the signing with a lot of photos.
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2015/10/baylors-trayvon-bromell-goes-pro-with-new-balance/He's Mike Rogers 2.0. The big companies know it. He's too short to win on the global level. Great sprinter though. Already has perfect form. Not much room for improvement. He will retire with more gold in his bank than on his mantle.
Shoe companies want visibility. He just took bronze at the World Championships, placed high at NCAAs and is a good looking, personable guy. Those are the things sponsors want.
Mike Rodgers has had a consistently good career, which is why he is sponsored by Nike.
Trayvon is tall enough to run in the 9.7x zone. Nesta Carter has run 9.78 and has also had a consistently good career and he is shorter than Trayvon.
There is only one Bolt. Using your logic, only Bolt and Gatlin should be sponsored.

Form is indeed critically important, but there are other factors/aspects, where Bromell has room for improvement. And his form is not always "perfect", he is still experimenting and learning what works best.
You have to be impressed by the injuries he has overcome. Broken hips, etc.
Yeah, he's awsome. Clearly. However, if he's the future of US sprinting, we won't be winning global titles. If he really was the the future 100 man to replace Bolt, he wouldn't be running for New Balance. Can you imagine how much Nike would pay someone who really could replace Bolt?
Maybe he will get to 9.79 and maybe even score a few more global medals, but he ain't running 9.5, 9.6 or even 9.7 mid.

How can people still still think that height is a relevant factor in running? It's 2015.
Oooh...will he wear those little orange hotpants? Nice.

PB of 9.84. 20 years old. Doesn't take much to improve a couple of little things and that 9.84 becomes 9.74 or 9.6x. Natural maturation alone is enough to produce improvement. Whoever thinks otherwise is clueless.
OK, coach, you can go hand out the volleyballs now to your 8th grade phys ed class.
Word on the street was that some big brands were offering $1M/yr for Bromell, which makes me wonder what NB paid and what put them over the top. Would you go to NB if they offered $1.25M/yr vs. Nike/Adi at $1M/yr?

Why wouldn't you? $250,000 extra is a lot of money. Failing to see your logic here.

The press release says a charitable foundation will be set up for Trayvon and he and New Balance plan to "give back to the community", specifically mentioning Florida where Trayvon is from. I can see legions of little kids in Florida idolizing him and telling their parents they want New Balance shoes. Florida is a big sports state with many of our best sprinters coming from there over the years. Smart move by New Balance. The foundation undoubtedly will also provide some sort of tax shelter for the money Trayvon is getting.
Plenty of elite 100m runners don't run any faster than what they ran at 20.

Yes, that is true. When a company sponsors an athlete it is a crap shoot. Lots of things can happen. That is the risk of playing the game.
Most experts think Trayvon Bromell is a good bet. If New Balance didn't sponsor Trayvon, which sprinter would they sponsor? They wanted to get into the sprint segment and correctly concluded he is the best young US sprinter available.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
