I donated $25 originally, so I would get a DVD when it finally comes out. I recently got the email about concluding the film at the 2016 trials regardless of the outcome.
My $0.02 is that they were hoping Hall would medal at London, and that would offer a fitting conclusion to the documentary. From there, things just snowballed downhill really quickly for Hall and the way they originally intended on twisting the movie (showing Hall's successes, fast times, faith, family, etc.) was thrown to the wind partially due to Hall's lackluster performances. They had to rethink the whole process on how to create the movie and will likely be shown differently than the producers originally intended. Now, the outcome of the 2016 trials is not as important for them. I'm still very interested in seeing how this turns out. It's now expected to be released in 'early 2017'. For the record, I don't see Hall being relevant at all at the trials.
The email I got didn't mention anything about asking for more money, however, it states that "...we need your support and optimism..." Due to the increased timeline alone, it doesn't surprise me that they need more money.
