Detroit Free Press Marathon this Sunday. Will Greg Meyer's 2:13:07 in 1980 ever be broken? Weather looks fair to decent.
Pretty sure Mr. Hubbard will be doing the commentating again this year. He truly does an awesome job and is very keen on distance running. So, is anybody there that has a shot at the record or will 2:25 win it?
A Hanson runner will probably win as they are from Michigan or at least train there. Who else is there? That's what I thought.

Hanson men are a thing of the past.
Zach Ornelas will win it this year.
He was caught last year with maybe 600 to go, approximately. Andersen caught him and he's back this year, wearing number 1. Why do you believe Zach win it and are no Hanson runners running?

I am running. 53 degrees for a high, 37 degrees at the start, a bridge to another country, a tunnel on the way back, and 20,000 other runners. What more could a guy ask for? Not to mention the same relay course that Kip ran and somehow got lost:):):):):):):):):):)...no one gets lost on that course, except him.

Two ladies from Michigan I coach are running one looking to run sub 2:50 and the other sub 3:00. Hope everyone run well.

i can only assume that your'e joking, but on that course??? sorry dude, your two ladies should have no problem anywhere on that course, none. i've run 2:41+ on that course. there's always company and never once did I come even close to being sent the wrong way. anyone who gets lost on that course is doing it "on purpose"

Agreed. Crazy madness when you exit the tunnel, about 8 miles I think? If it's not windy, it's really not a bad course. I'm doing the International Half and it starts with the marathoners, or at least it did 2 years ago. Good luck to all!

Running the U.S. 1/2 (no passport required). It starts at 10:30 so you can watch a lot of the top marathoners finish. The bridge is steep and so is the tunnel from Canada. Take those away and it's a pretty dead flat course.

Hanson's are all about the oly trials next spring, for those males still left on the team at least.
Zach has been tearing it up this year. See crim results for just a sample of what this guys been putting out. Mike is a phenomenal runner, but 2015 hasn't been as great for him. I'm sure that he will bounce back.
With Playmaker's runners banned from competing by their coach, it's really just not going to be that deep this year.

Serious question friend. What got them banned by their coach? Honestly, I'm just an average runner from the area, 33 minute 10k, and I hadn't heard that from anyone at any race or frequenting the Hanson running store. Thanks.

p.s. What I meant about being at Hanson's was simply that someone there would have usually brought something like that up. I was there 2 days ago and was asking what top runners would be there (no, not Hanson runners) and no one said anything about the Playmaker runners being banned by their coach.

Banned? Yeah right. Why do people post such garbage? I'll be there watching Sunday morning. I have a feeling that Zachary will win, but I'm certain that I'll see a playmaker runner or two in the race.

Mike Andersen won last year, but he DOESN'T run for Playmakers, believe it or not.
So, a little known rule about qualifying for the oly trails is this: the race must be usatf certified (13.1 miles long or 26.2, not too much of a drop, etc) AND USATF sanctioned.
Here's what sanctioned means: the race pays usatf a certain amount of money. It's essentially there to make sure that USATF gets richer.
Well, as it was, last year the course was certified. Everyone knows this. No one knew however that it was not SANCTIONED. This was never a problem before because no one had qualified at Detroit in a great long time. Although, a few males have been getting very close in the half and full.
Two runners qualified in the half marathon and found out later that they did not have an entry to the oly trails due to Detroit not being sanctioned. USATF and Detroit Free Press RD had a meeting over it. USATF extended an olive branch and told detroit that if Freep was sanctioned it for 2015, USATF would retrospectively sanction Detroit for 2014.
Detroit refused claiming that "we never marketed ourselves as a fast race", and "people never run that fast here".
Bull shit. Zach Ripley was within second of the B standard in the half on more than one occasion. Detroit offers thousands of dollars in prize money to top finishers.
As you may have guessed, one of the qualifiers who was robber of her spot at the trials was a Playmakers elite runner.
USATF is a bureaucratic nightmare as usual. Completely f**cking a few runners because they didn't get their slice of the entry fee pie at Detroit. USATF knows for a fact that two runners ran the qualifying time over 13.1 and they will not let them in the trails because politics.
Freep RD's played the "we arn't a fast race" card and refused to pay the fee. They did this knowing that it would prevent two runners who went to their race expecting a shot at the trials from competing at the trails. Crushing two great locals runners dreams. Some support of the running community.
TLDR: USTAF is predictably corrupt, greedy, and bureaucratic. Detroit Free-Press marathon proves that it does not support the local sport of running by refusing to work with USATF.
