Anyone?
Im a sub10, 40 yard sprinter. never did the mary dough.
yo boks!
I've heard of a former NFL lineman (Pretty fast 1-3 steps) running a marathon, but not a 100m guy/gal. Alan Page of the Vikings.
Thank you for the replies, guys.
Car Lewis talked about it a lot, but I can't find an actual result.
your confused, that was Bike Rossi, not Car Lewis.
The mention of Alan Page really brings me back to the Purple People Eaters defense of the Vikings in the 1970s. He is listed at 6'4" 245! Apparently, he ran 3:22 at Grandma's in 1979 while still an NFL lineman. On a single day, he did some sort of challenge that involved running the mile, 800, 400, 200, 100, 10k, and marathon. The 100 would not have been sub 10, of course, but he was very quick off the line. He had 148 career sacks, including 18 in one season, and in his last four seasons alone (1978-81) with the Bears he had 40. He was running 35-40 mpw during the season and 55 in the offseason and this contributed to the Vikings letting him go, because he didn't make weight. But obviously, he continued to play very well and entered the Hall of Fame that he himself had helped to build back in the late 1960s. He became a justice in Minnesota and at 70 this year he'll be forced finally to retire from that position.
holy sh*t. what a life.
no it's not possible for an extreme fast twitcher like that to run 42.2

Yuuup
Hunter Hillenmeyer just ran 3:38 in Chicago.
If a former 240-pound NFL linebacker can do that for fun in his retirement, it's safe to bet most sub-10 guys could be much faster.
I could see someone doing a 10k losing track of the laps and running 105.5 laps but it would be tough for someone doing the 100m to get so lost that they end up running a marathon on a track.
Sub 11/22/48.5 Marie-José Perec ran NYCM in 4:51:52 at age 45. I remember because I ran it that year and it was my goal to beat all the female celebrities (I'm female too) and I was shocked at how slow she was. Her time was closer to Pamela Anderson's (5:41) than Caroline Wozniacki's (3:26), who did it the year after. So I'm proud to be a better marathoner than a three-time gold medalist, a pro tennis player, and probably the most famous beach runner of the '90s.
A variation I've always wondered is at what distance would elite 100m and Marathon runners (say below 10s and 2:10) run about equal times - would vary of course, but my guess is in the 400-800m range - any other estimates?
Great post, jjjjj.
This thread had some great stats-a few NFL players are on the list. Maybe some of them ran 10-mid in college or something.
Not a marathon, but I believe Maurice Greene has run a 17:xx 5k.
