With regards to training for distance or time I believe there are a few things to consider. Slower runners can be disadvantaged when it comes to easy runs and distance because of the time spent on feet running the same distance.
Take for example a 12mile run.
6min pace = 72mins
10min pace = 120mins
Would someone capable of running 10-12miles at 6min pace day after day for extended periods be better off compared to someone capable of running 10-12miles at 10min pace day after day for extended periods because of less time spent on feet? They have run the same distance but not the same time.
I get the impression many people would not think running 10-12miles at 6min pace 6 or 7 days a week (maybe with/without a workout or shorter run also in the AM or PM) is a big deal but many would think running 12miles at 10min pace 6 or 7 days a week (maybe with/without a workout or shorter run also in the AM or PM) is not so good?
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
