1st place, baby. I had a little twinge in my foot yesterday so I decided to Tempo the race (didn't want to screw up my chances of winning the Nairobi Turkey Trot). Felt smooth and relaxed...could've gone another 20k or so. I'll probably tack on another 10k tonight to shake out the legs. All in all not a bad workout to close out the week.
So so.
I was shooting for 2:58-2:59 and went through the half in 1:29:15 and then faded badly to finish in 3:08:13.
TxRUNNERgirl was shooting for 3:15 and also faded in the 2nd half to finish in 3:24:42. Still her second fastest marathon.
All the advice in that thread was true, especially the porta-potties. I didn't hit my goal of 3:15...boo. But I just wasn't feeling it today, even from the start. Went through half in 1:38 and then hopped in with the 3:15 pace group at mile 15. They were a little under pace, so threw in a 7:00 mile there and started crashing at mile 17 or so. Thoughts of dropping out crossed my mind, but instead I just backed off the pace do I would finish. Ended up with 3:24:42, which is still my second fastest time, so could have been worse.
Was the weather really a factor?

It wasn't super hot, but too sunny for me. The sun beating down on me for 3+ hours zaps me. I couldn't sweat normally because of the wind either.
First marathon
Didn't think it was at all warm or sunny but could definitely feel the wind
Wanted to break 3 hours which would have been easier if they let me start in corral a
I was in f until yesterday over four hours! They let me in b but still meant I basically ran on my own the whole race passing people
Ran 2.51 tough last 2 miles although legs were quite tired the last 6 miles
Held on well. Second half 6 seconds slower than first. But first half I had to run round more people
How do people screw up one of the easiest courses? Too much Runner's World advice?
