I'm a 4:12/9:08 guy as a junior who will be one of the top finishers at my state XC meet this year as a senior...not great but certainly not bad. Both marks put me in the top 30 seniors or so in the country (from last year's junior list). I'm not getting any scholarship offers from Power 5's & very little ones from mid-majors. I get it...it's very competitive, my marks are nothing special & there just isn't a ton of money out there for male athletes.
But I know a bunch of mid/high 4:5x/10:3x women who are supposedly getting full rides thrown at them left & right by mid-majors...& big money from some (not all) Power 5's (or at least some scholarship from the good ones)...and guess where those marks put them? Barely in the top 90 - 100 in their class.
I get it. The world isn't fair. Title IX is needed. I'm not anything special anyway so I should just shut up and take out the loan.
But my question is, do these women realize how f'n slow they are to be getting this kind of big scholarship? Do they appreciate how inflated the market is for them? Do they realize that they're nothing special & that college competition is about to get much harder...and these coaches WILL make them earn their full rides...? I don't get the sense that those that I know do...
