Curious what others think?
I say Wetmore by far. Simpson, Coburn, Kipp, and Billy Nelson.

Pascal Donert at BTC by far- Huling, Jager, Bayer, Quigley.
*Dobert
Can't talk about American steeple coaches without mentioning Chick Hislop
robert gary.... must be mentioned
30 years ago the Steeplechase guru was Chick Hislop of Weber State. Martin Smith at Wisconsin learned every thing about the steeple from Hislop.
Pascal Dobert ran for Smith. And Dobert now coaches the greatest American steeplechaser.
Very few coaches in this country put in the effort to focus on the steeplechase.
Robert Gary could be considered the only other candidate.
But I've never heard of any big name coach since Hislop that completely focused on that event.
Obviously Whetmore is up there.
SteepleCuse
Hislop has coached 42 athletes 9:00 or better. 13 of those went sub 8:40.

I would definitely put Chick in there and you'd have to mention another Utah guy in Patrick Shane at BYU- coached multiple ncaa champs back in the day....I'd imagine anyone with top talent would do well there.
Wetmore #1
Probably put Gary #2 with his success with women recently too (Garcia and Bush)
Schumacher/Dobert a great combo; have to see on the women's side as Quigley was with college coach through US Champs.
Hislop is great college, but Farley is only high level (8:25) pupil.
John Mcdonnell too working with Dan Lincoln.
Do you really think a steeplechaser needs a steeplechase coach?
Jerry and Pascal are certainly the cream of the crop along with Wetmore. However, they also get best talent to start. Huling joined having already run 8:13, Bayer was an NCAA 1500 Champion and split 3:53 indoor DMR. Quigley handed off. On the other hand, Jager was developed from the very beginning and is probably USA best mid-distance runner right now.
Out of curiosity, how to Jerry and Pascal divide the coaching duties for steeplechasers?

Wetmore coached Slattery, Batliner, Reese, and Wells to some pretty good steeple runs as well...

Didn't Hislop also have a 2008 female Olympian?
How many Olympic standards?
How many men under 8:25 and women under 9:35?
Schumacher
Wetmore
Gary
Gags (Cabral, Mahoney, and did he coach Nohilly too?)
Jerry with assistance from Pascal has coached 3 US men to sub-8:20.
Jager, Huling, Bayer
Nobody else 2.
Case closed.
Women is Wetmore with Coburn, Kipp, and Simpson. No other coach with 2 US women sub-9:30.
Case closed.
While we're on the subject, how do you even train for the steeple? What's a basic training program like?
1. Schumacher/Pascal- 3 guys sub 8:20 and Quigley
2. Wetmore
3. Gary (Garcia and Bush); men have been less then impressive last couple years
4. Gags (Cabral and Mahoney)
