Curious what he will do- also, is he self coached now? He is running well and looking like a favorite to make the Rio marathon squad.

Maybe he and Ryan Hall will train each other?

No. He announced he'll either be going to Florida or Colorado Springs after Christmas. Each has its virtues, each has its vices.

What is the weather forecast for the trials marathon in LA? If it is a smoggy 80+ degree day, he definitely needs to train in the heat.
It is kind of tough to get an accurate forecast 4 months out. I am betting that he goes to Florida to train with the other Michigan boys. His mom is in the Springs so he may go that route as well.
The advantages of Colorado Springs are that it's at altitude and Mountain Time Zone, hence easier to get acclimated to PCT, and also he'd have the Olympic Training Center right there, no small thing. The advantages of Florida are that no matter how warm it might be in LA--average high in February is high 60s to 70, but for the last two years there have been four or five days in the 80s--he would be ready for it, and he wouldn't have to worry about any possible snow storms in Colorado.
This year, LA had 5 days with highs in the 80s, but just about every morning was in the 50s, so conditions should be very good. Why the Trials for Rio are being held in LA in February, I have no idea. They should hold them in Texas or Miami if they want somewhat similar conditions, and thus, to choose athletes suited to those conditions. You'd have to think that Meb is the favorite, but Ritz is running well again and is a lock for the team if healthy.
The men's race will probably start at 10 or 10:30 AM and thus finish past noon.
"and he wouldn't have to worry about any possible snow storms in Colorado."
Or any indoor tracks tempting him to do a workout.
Why do you say this?

What's the big deal? It's not cold in Flagstaff or Boulder?

Altitude is a myth. Altitude adaption only helps when racing at altitude.
