For health reasons, or jumped before getting pushed out?
Indeed the crazies are celebrating.
He is an alcoholic. He likely has liver problems. He needs to go to rehab and get his life together.
I think this abortion fight took the fight out of him. He's one of the most reliably pro-life guys out there, but he also thinks congress has a role in keeping the federal government running.
the cuckoo birds were saying to him 'you have to shut down the government or we go after you'
so Boehner was forced to basically side with the pro choice people in order to do his job and keep the gov't open. that had to really hurt the guy.
that, and oh yeah, it turns out he is probably an alcoholic and that used to be a secret.
Boehner is a devout Catholic. He was opening weeping during the Pope's visit. Boehner knows he can no longer remain true to his faith and at the same time lead a Republican party built on lies and hatred.
Confirmation?
Sources?
Verification?
...or is this just Pelosi's vengeance?
WE need TERM LIMITS AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT!!!
Ashley Madison scandal.
Good for him to resign.
LA Times good enough for a confirmation?
Now that he's stepping down, can we stop pretending that his name is pronounce "Bainer" when it is obvious pronounced "Boner"? In what world does an O followed by an E produce a hard A sound? I don't have 5 tays on each feet. I have toes.

*on each foot.
This is awesome, now we get to see the tea party guys destroy each other grabbing for power. Perfect timing to get the pure craziness in the news before the presidential election so people can get a real idea of the republican party, which lets face it won't help republicans in a general election.
The fact that Liberals are lamenting this is all you need to know about which side this guy was really on. (Hint: Neither the Democrat side nor the Republican side. He was on the side of the Ruling Class.)
Let's get him and McConnell out and return to a two party system.

this is actually a decent point - the GOP could rip itself to shreds over this - the traditional responsible guys vs. the cuckoo birds.
but that will probably just energize the base fort the primaries and push out Kasich and Bush and anyone else with any sense of moderation.

It's German. The "oe" is an English adaptation of an "o" with an umlaut, which is pronounced as "ay" as in way, day, and stay.
Boehner is resigning in order to take one for the team. He was going to try to head off a revolt by pulling a parliamentary maneuver to vacate the speakership and have an election. But he could not get enough Republican votes and would have to had Democrats support him to get back into the position of speaker of the house. So, Boehner will just resign instead of fueling a huge intraparty battle over his leadership.
I think Boehner really hates the Ted Cruz wing of the party, but does not want to be the one who is responsible for declaring war inside the party. He is just going to kick the can down the road and let someone else deal with it.
What is really amazing is that Republicans have gained a tremendous amount of power by gerrymandering congressional districts, but are now on the precipice of going so hard to the right that they alienate anyone who leans at all to the center. And to top it off, Donald Trump may actually end up as the nominee for 2016. The result will be a blood bath for Republicans in the 2016 election as moderates flee the party.
We call him "Beaner".
reasonable Roy - there is an interesting debate on whether gerrymandering has had the effect you say - worth reading some of these:

Disco Boy - Do you understand that most of the population (of the world, not just the USA) feels like the extremists like you are actually the real problem?

+1
I'm not liberal or conservative - I'm comfortable in the mushy middle, where most of use should be and probably are. It's extremists like disco gary that are mucking up the gears of democracy.
