Rest in peace Cameron!
Such a shame. Our condolences to everyone who knew him.
He definitely was a guy who had improved dramatically and went after it. In college, at Samford, he didn't break 9:00 in the steeple but ended up running 8:32 for the steeple in 2013.

Here is an article on the initial accident.

PS. Sorry for the messageboard going down. We were doing some maintenance that caused this thread to disappear for a while.
My condolences to his family and friends. The woman who ran off the road and hit him should be arrested for manslaughter.
Sorry to hear this. I lost someone close to me in a similar way. My condolences to the family.
According to the new report, the guy was running defensively against traffic, yet was done in by a car approaching from behind in the other lane (missed a bend in the road?) anyhow. Tragic and unlucky. Best to his family and those that knew him.
My thoughts and prayers to everyone who knew him. Sad day.
Very sad.

This ^^^^
way too many drivers get away with sh** like this every day, and it's complete bullshit. I've been at more than a few races with Cam, super dude, absolut bullcrap that she gets away with this ( but you know the cops will just let it slide).
Look at it this way, if I walked around with my pistol in my hand, finger on the trigger, and it "accidentally" went off (btw, no such thing as an "accidental" discharge), then it's 100% on me for hurting someone. same damn thing when you're driving a deadly weapon that weighs two tons, can kill anyone it runs into, including yourself. If you can't see, slow the EFF DOWN until you can safely navigate the road. ANYTHING less than that exact action is 100% negligent, pure and simple. guarantee that Cam won't see justice, and I'm f***ing pissed about it. Grow some huevos TN cops, do your friggin job!
Just terrible. Could have happened to any of us.
Condolences to his family.
Cameron was beloved by many in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. He had a vivacious spirit and he always cheered on local runners. He will be sorely missed. I still can't quite fathom that he's gone. The fact that the driver left the scene should be enough to convict her.
If Bean was running AGAINST traffic on a two lane street how is it possible for a car traveling in the same direction hit him? The driver would have had to have crossed an entire lane to hit him on the opposite shoulder.
I remember the humid summer day on the blue GPS track before freshman year when Cameron first came to cross country practice.
I've never seen an athlete fall so in love with the sport of running over the years, and his passion proved electric for both his performance and that of his teammates. Watching his development from a tiny ninth grader on JV, to a Running-with-the-Buffalos-Catalyzed mileage junkie, to a hardened national class athlete was special for me and all those around him.
He was an amazing teammate and dedicated training partner for four years, and this is very sad.
Amen brother. I agree 100% this sh!t has got to stop. Too many people get off without paying the price for their negligence. Whether serving jail time or making payments to the family of the deceased.
I'm not sure what the answers are for this type of thing that is soooo prevalent in our society but people ned to be held accountable. Drunk driving, texting, on the phone, whatever, too many drivers on the road are distracted or are just plain dangerous behind the wheel.

Ever heard of cell phones? I'm one of those people who is a distracted driver because I'm looking at all of those stupid people playing on their phones while driving. Personally, when I run I look at cars from the front and rear ALL THE TIME because I know what people are not doing when they're supposed to be driving.
here is another article:
"The driver told police that the sun got in her eyes, causing her to veer off the road where she hit Bean. Bean was wearing reflective running shoes and clothing and was running against traffic, according to a police report."
"Investigators will conduct a follow-up interview with the driver and are recreating and reconstructing the crash to verify exact driving conditions and the cause of the accident.
Investigators are also downloading and collecting electronic data.
Kyle Miller, spokesman for the Chattanooga Police Department, said the case will require extensive follow-up by investigators, and said police will not release any additional information "that is not verified through thorough review."
Any charges against the driver are pending further investigation, Miller said.
Potential charges would require the investigative information presented to prove negligence and/or intent, he added. "
That is exactly what happened. She crossed both lanes, hit him, and kept going.Had to either be texting, drunk, or something. Terrible timing.

I competed against Cameron while I was at Furman and he was at Samford and got to know him after races and when he spent time on our campus. Truly an awesome guy; after talking to him at meals it felt like we had been friends for years. Impressive runner who absolutely dominated our home meet one year while he was at Samford and ran away with a handful of conference titles. I saw him in Blowing Rock last year during the BRR after not seeing each other for a while and he was as gregarious and friendly as ever.
This is a tragic loss for the running community because he was a real beacon that others wanted to be around. He will be dearly missed but he lived a very impactful life in a short period of time.
My prayers go out to his friends and family.
Such a sad story and ending for such an awesome guy. I had the pleasure of running against him in college. He was the guy on the other team you wanted to cool down with, no matter how shitty your race was. Always some crazy story to tell. He'll be missed.
