Just posting comments from last week now. I will post my week after I get back from my long run later this morning.
jwil - Based solely on your finishing time yesterday, I am guessing you went for it but came up a bit short. There is never any shame in going for it. I think despite the result you made some really big strides this cycle, which rewarded you with a huge half marathon PR along the way. Take note of all the things you did right and use them for future victories. Interested to hear your report.
Forcerunner - Glad to see the "Forcerunner Special" back in action. I think your 1350m loop had been missing you. And what else can I say about your last special block? You are handling these big marathon workouts like a pro - you are going to have a fantastic debut at Columbus.
back into it and Runnersfix - Both of you are primed and ready to go. I know each of you have big goals next weekend. Have faith in your ability to execute. Pour over the training logs if you need reminders about how well you have each nailed some big workouts. Run those workouts again in your mind to prepare mentally for the task at hand. And then just let if fly. Also, safe travels to and from your destinations. Don't underestimate sleep this week. :)
Slo-twitch - 12mi ~MP is a great indicator when you are doing all of the other work in training. I would imagine this past week is probably your last really big one. Just start taking care of the little things between now and Chicago (stay healthy, get sleep, practice fuel plan on long runs, etc.) and you are going to slay it.
Running Again - You are getting more and more consistent with your daily mileage volume. That, probably moreso than the workouts, is going to be your best friend come race day.
lest - Great 3000m time even if you never felt settled. As I posted several weeks ago, I think I like 500m repeats better than 400m repeats because the 300m recovery jog seems more suited and natural for the workout. When I am doing fast 400s, 200m just doesn't seem like enough recovery and 400m is too much. 300m is perfect.
kaizn - Very strong 10k workout in those conditions. That should give you some confidence toward your December goal.
pewow - Good luck at your upcoming XC race. I wouldn't mind jumping in one of those right now just for the change of pace and scenery.
Niceguy542007 - First of all, major congrats on the 3:12! That is a great performance for you. You assessed your training and fitness very well, as I remember you being unsure if you could hit 3:10 but you felt like you could hit 3:15. Well with the tough course and the negative split, I still think there's a chance you can still get that BQ at your next attempt in 9 weeks. I would recommend (which I am sure you followed) a very easy first week to get your legs back under you, maybe 50% of peak mileage for week two with all easy running, 75% peak mileage for week three with all easy running and introducing strides, and then maybe just generally repeat the last 6-7 weeks of your previous plan. I would also recommend trying to keep in place the medium long runs this go-round - if you need to cut any corners I would shorten longer tempos or even long runs by a couple miles. A steadier diet of consistent mileage will be your best friend between now and then.
ThatAverageRunner - Bummer about the canceled race, because like you said you looked pretty sharp going into it. Good luck this weekend at the home invite.
OklahomaGuy - Posting tip: I always type my comments first on a Word Doc and then cut-and-paste it into the post. That way if there is ever a glitch you don't have to do extra work. And nice birthday gift to yourself with that 5K. Sounds like you were really steady.
IllinoisRunner - For some reason I can never really time trial well on a track, either. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your actual racing and training have been strong up to this point.
UpN0rth - Very strong week overall. Great 4mi race. 20:0x on a hilly course is shifting.
Hereford - Your weeks are looking better and better, man. I like how you are building into the quality with the strides. And like you said, I wouldn't worry about pace so much right now - it should be more about running for x amount of time on your feet. My Thursday AM run after my workout this past week was 5mi @ 9:29/mi, so I am pretty familiar with Grandma pace. Feels good to run so slow when you need to.
workingharder - Sounds like your marathon test experiment is leaving you with more questions than answers, haha. But that's a good thing. I think the incredible heat this summer really had an effect on your training. Now that conditions are more fair, your true fitness and ability are getting to show. And I am sure those 25-35mi runs a couple weeks back was a major stimulus that is just now starting to show. I would recommend giving Chicago a full go at 2:40, even if you try to negative split it by going out at 6:10ish. I guess these last few weeks should be a good indicator as well.
TannerD22 - Wow, big PR! Sounds like you executed your race plan perfectly to me. All that summer training is starting to show at the end of your races. Keep up the great work.
Pikachu - Thanks for the drive by post. Great to hear your voice again. And I have got more than 6 years on you and am looking for a big PR this fall so I don't want to hear that "too old" business, haha. Get better soon.
