A bummer? For sure.
Unexpected? No. He does this all the time.
Can we blame him? I'm not sure. I don't know his reasoning.
Does this make me less of a fan? Yes, it does. He barely raced at all this year and this would have been fun to watch.
What's a matter with ya boy (Texan ranch acsent), we know this from the other load of threads on this geeza.
LRC = lets talk about Rupp and Mo and Paula and Geb and Kenny endlessly and how they are all on peds ya ya ya ya..........
Am I bummed Rupp dropped out? Of course I amAm I ready to move on? Absolutely.

DONE!
OP.
I've been on these boards for 10 years and the key to starting a big thread is the title.
You should have started this thread with this title. "Not Rupp Certified: Rupp pulls out - out of Amsterdam 10 miler". It would have been super hot in 10 minutes as it plays on both "Not Rupp Certified" and "Pull Out".
I'll show you. I'm going to start a thread with that title right now and we'll see which one is more popular in 2 hours.

Solid advice.
Rojo can you please edit the title?

I totally agree with your post. I am bummed because I think it's bad for the sport.
I'm 56 and have been running since 1971. I remember when road races- marathons, 10k's, 15k's- were on TV and people watched.
No, America didn't huddle around their tv's to watch the weekly road race but people watched them and people were at least aware of who the top runners were.
Segue- I remember an interview with a healthy, competitive Salazar and he criticized other runners for racing too much. He said something like- he could do more in training than they could while racing- with the idea to be ready for the major competitions. I guess you could argue that it didn't work judging by his record in major competitions.
I guess the point is- Rupp (and AlSal) is going to do what they want but I think it's bad for the sport when the best runners aren't in the public eye racing.
Add to that the glut of races and they rarely race each other.
Im sure there are guys on this MB old enough to remember races like the Virginia 10 miler where many of the top guys faced off.
These races got big articles in RW (a REAL running mag back then) and even press coverage.
The Dutch are very tolerant of the wacky backy but don't ever try to pull the hollowed out book trick on their customs officers.

I'm sick and tired of everybody on these threads saying Rupp is done! The guy is 29 years old and had a rough summer. If you've had any experience with running over a long course of time, runners have ups and downs and you are completely ignorant and stupid to say he is done! He had an incredible 2012 and here he is getting 5th the world champs in an off year and you're saying he is done because of a lack of racing? You're all haters and can shove it. Mo himself very well could have gotten 4th in that WC race. Anyone that knows the ups and downs of running knows that Rupp isn't done. Rough year? Absolutely, missed indoors with an illness and is clearly still struggling. But you'd be surprised what a month or so off and a good revamping of his training will do. Hopefully for him he will get to train with Eric Jenkins or Mo Farah again because it sounds like he was practically solo this year.

I know truth hurts. But don't get sick and tired. Just deal with it.

LOL at Rupp's "viral illness."
"Hey, he's tired and has totally normal tests. Let's call it a 'virus' and skip indoors."

You know who else was practically solo this year? Mo Farah.
Stop making excuses for a guy who is DONE.
The race was won in 45:19.
According to McMillan a 45:19 10-mile is equivalent to a 27:07 10k.
Rupp could have actually won his first non-indoor race internationally if he'd been in this one.

No kidding. Not only that, but the World Championship 5000 was won in 13:50 and the 10000 was won in 27:01. Rupp would have crushed the field in both races if only he had shown up.
Why a ten-MILE in Netherlands?
LOL at us Americans having to find metric equivalent of mile-based distance.
Kipsang runs well below anything you'd expect from a guy as good as him.
But he isn't afraid to get out on the road and run even if his shape isn't the best
So much to learn from that Mr rupp

You kidding me!?! Mo was in Africa with like 35 sub 27 minute 10k guys!
To be fair Mo Farah had training partner Abdi Bashir of Belgium in France and Japan @ the UK training camp , I dont think Galen had training partner at all ... He will reunite with Mo in October

Isn't that faster than the time he ran and got out kicked in at Worlds?
