I also had this problem. The 890 V2 as my favorite. The 890 V3 was very similar, but I didn\'t like the upper as much just because of faster wear from my particular foot shape. The 890 V4 was one of the worst shoes I have tried. The 890 V5 is slightly better, but both of these models I felt were totally unsuitable for a forefoot strike an I could not use them. The forefoot tread design change is the main problem. It makes no sense to me for a shoe like this.
I can say the the Vazee pace is what I would consider to be the follow up shoe to the 890 V3, but more like the follow up to the 890 V2 because the sole is generally less bulky and there is less heel drop. The 890 V3 seemed to gain some bulk. I tried them because I read that they were actually meant to replace the 890 line and I believe that they do.
I would disagree with the Zante being similar because it is very soft and I liked the 890 because of how it was relatively firm.
I also had luck with the Tempo Boost as a replacement. I would say that it is firmer than the 890 V3 though. I have not tried the other boosts because I just think they are not a good value.
