Last week, I took a week off running. I went to Disneyland with my family and I wore my running shoes so I'd be comfortable. However, I noticed a couple hours in that I developed this tearing feeling in the outside of my arch. I took some it easy after the day was over. I ran on Friday and it felt like it did when I first got it. I've taken a 3 days off since then, but I need to run because m y XC season just started. What is this? I'm not sure if it's plantar fasciitis as I haven't felt any heel pain.
Sounds like you have peroneal tendonitis my friend.
I have some good news for you: this injury FEELS a lot worse than it actually is. I remember when I first got it, I could barely walk. Three or four days later, I was running like it had never happened.
Here are some strategies that helped me:
Freeze a few water bottles and firmly roll that part your arch against them. Don't go too hard, but don't be super gentle either. Do this twice a day.
If you have an Iphone, download a free buzz massager, and position it on your foot for an hour each night. The light stimulation will help with blood flow.
Get a bag of ice, pour it in a bucket of water, and stick your foot in it for 20 minutes. It's going to hurt because it's so cold, but it will reduce the inflammation.
