They usually give them away at the expo, so I don't see what the big deal is.

They are entry shirts, not finisher shirts.
Yes.
I've never heard of a race giving out "finishers shirts."
No, but it is bad taste to waste entry fee money on making t-shirts in the first place. Might as well stop the waste by wearing it at least once.
It's disgusting that you're even considering this

Back in "the day," it was routine for races to hand out t-shirts in the finish line chute. There was no such things as finishers medals. So the t-shirt was the deal.
I worked at a high school cross country meet that gave shirts for the first 20 finishers about three years ago.
Did a half marathon where I got the "13.1 finisher" shirt the day before at the expo. Seemed like a total jinx. Fortunately I did manage to finish the race, so still can proudly wear the now stinky tech shirt.
Just stop giving a fvck what anyone thinks across the board in your life. Wear the god dam shirt and nobody will even notice, let alone have a thought one way or the other
Yes, bad taste. You don't want to bonk a mile into your 5K and have to DNF while wearing the race shirt.
Nope - toss it into your bag and put it on after the race, so you can hang out at the post-race expo and not stink ... bad karma to wear it during the race!
I always wear the finishers shirt underneath the race shirt so I can proudly display it as soon as I cross the line.
In this scenario, and I required to wear pants, shorts, or underwear?
It matters ok.
I am in the camp of those who say not to wear the race shirt in the race itself. There are some exceptions--here in Colorado Springs we have the Waldo Waldo 5K where the shirts are the Where's Waldo shirts. It is a fundraising race and wearing the shirt is part of the fun.
Peachtree 10K in Atlanta used to give shirts only to finishers and only to those who ran faster than 55 minutes (I think). Now I think anyone who finishes gets one. (Of course at one time the race only have a few hundred people).
Yes it is!! I have scolded people that have their shirts on before the race!! Not cool at all! Of course I am a veteran!
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
