Something interesting a coach once proposed to me:
Using some advanced physics, we can deduce that it is not possible for a human to run, say, a 400m race in 0 seconds. Therefore, over the years some studs will keep shaving hundredths off the record, but it will stop eventually. There must be a limit to human potential. Maybe for the 400m, sub-40 is not humanly possible. So say in 200 years, someone runs a 42.4 or whatever, and that's it. No one ever beats that time, the world record will not be touched. What will happen to the sport? Surely it will lose a lot of excitement.
Maybe the final world record has already been set in some events.
What do you think is the absolute limit for human potential in a given distance?
(Lets pretend doping doesn't exist). Can anyone beat 9.58 in the 100m? There must be someone who comes along and breaks 2:00 for the marathon right?
