Hey there! I'm a junior in high school and I run cross country. Which is great! Except the fact that I have hypothyroidism and overheat or get deathly cold easily. A few days ago we had to have our time trials (3 miles) inside the school on the third/second floor because there's too much smoke outside and it's unhealthy. Sooo we had to run 2 laps upstairs (8 is a mile), run to the first floor, up the stairs to the second floor and do two laps there, then come back up to the third floor and do two, and keep going until you get to 22 laps and the rest of the distance is made up with the stairs. Well, the school was already very warm at 10 am and I knew I'd be in trouble. We did a mile warm-up and went super super slow, but I was still pouring sweat. I tried my best but had to stop at the halfway point because my body was getting too hot and I was literally pouring sweat. My legs were numb, I was having a hard time breathing, and I had a terrible chest pain around my heart. I stopped at drinking fountains but nothing helped so I had to stop. And I cried, because I want nothing more than to run and I couldn't even finish. Also, people on the team seem to think I overexaggerate it and look for an excuse to stop, and that hurts. I think the coach and assistant coaches are annoyed with me too. Only one person attempted to help me through it, and I'm thankful for them. I know I can run 4 miles by myself outside, so that's not the issue, it's my heating problems. I was wondering if anyone else has hypothyroidism and has any tips for me and my running? It would be greatly appreciated!
