Very disappointed in Dibaba not congratulating Ayana at the finish.
Ayna employed the perfect race strategy.

Yeah, and where was the windmill? The answer my friend is blowing in the wind...
When Ayana 'stormed' off you saw the expression on Dibaba's face change. She just couldn't follow, she was already totally winded.
WTH do you mean? She didn't jump up and down, but she congratulated her. She had painful blisters, and her priority was to get her shoes off.

So is that what slowed her down? I know that GD has had a long week but I didn't expect the race to go down like this. Something had to be wrong as she almost didn't medal.
People don't realize this, even elite runners who travel and train in new places a lot, running in the heat or more specifically trying to recover from a run in the heat isn't the same as training in a cool temperate climate. You can't run as hard or recover as quickly. I train in florida, and I do my easy runs 3min/mile slower than tempo pace for most of the year. Its really easy to get run down and dead legged when training in the heat.

Yeah, chronic dehydration can occur insidiously. I remember going to New Orleans in 1992 for the Olympic Trials, where the athletes were literally getting IV's under the stands. The place looked like a friggin' war zone at times. I'd go out to run for an hour and I had to just really ratchet it down due to the humidity. One fat guy in the stands in front of me just keeled over and the medics took him away! The first night, they ran the heats of the 10K (this was back in the Todd Williams days) and those guys down on the track looked like they were barely moving.

Smh... I see you people still haven't figured out the NBC leaves out key parts to make fake drama.
Watch a different broadcast and you'll see Dibaba genuinely high-five and hug Ayana right after the race.

Genzebe did not congratulate Almaz at all.
As a matter of fact, she didn't even as much as look at her.
almaz tried to pat her on the back to get her to give her (Almaz) a congratulatory hug/acknowledgement) but Genzebe, in her stupidity, ignored her.
Okay, this is an Ethiopian problaem and I have no business getting in on it but one more thing;
Actually two more;
1. It reminds me of Kemboi/Conseslus stupidity and the finger pointing.
Moses Kiptanui was so mad about it that he never even let them land in Nairobi before airing hsi thoughts. As their coach, he told them to stop the stupidity. They repaired it and embraced each other in Beijing.
2. Kiprop/Manangoi chemistry was great. It was so wonderful to watch that I had to rewind the tape to give it a second look.
Kiplagat is a very good friend of Kiprop's as well but was very disappointed with his performance.

Okay,
I take it back and I apologise.
I did watch NBC (recorded) and that particular part where they embraced wasn't there. I am serious.
NBC sucks so bad. Really interesting to see that clip of Scottish TV or whatever it was and how they actually follow Twell to the finish even though she was way back. NBC hardly even mentioned Tully and hardly ever shows any finishers except for the medalists, or sometimes even only shows the gold medalist. It's terrible.

True,
and they love cutting away only for them to come back after the race has unfolded.
I could have paid and watched a live stream but I just didtn' want to wake up early. I just avoided knowing the results and kept myself with football (EPL) to while away the time.
NBC is just baaad!
What the hell? I didn't watch the NBC sh!t, but it sounds preposterous! Shame on them!
Wow NBC gave us a different impression.
I take back calling her a sore loser.
Thanks for sharing the full video!

They do it a lot on their newcasts of political coverage as well.
Yeah I would always make sure to verify something on another broadcast because NBC always exaggerates things.
If you watched women gymnastics during the Olympics, you saw a similar thing where they Made Mustafina look like a snot.
Dibaba went out way harder than needed in the 1,500m heat and semi. This was a stupid move, closing in sub-60 in a heat when top 6 go through.
If Ayana was able to front-run the 5k final, Dibaba had no hope in hanging on. Remember that Ayana has a faster 5k PB than Dibaba.

Thanks for sharing that video. What an amazing effort by Ayana [and really all the runners] in those conditions.
Remember, Ayana is the THIRD FASTEST IN HISTORY.
