First things first, DISCLAIMER: I do not claim to be an expert on this subject, nor do I expect the posters below to come to agreement on this question. I am posting this thread to help myself and others achieve a more informed opinion on the drug free status or lack thereof of Usain Bolt.
Anyway, over the 2015 IAAF WC in Beijing, I couldn't help but notice that the Usain Bolt we were seeing was not the Usain Bolt we saw a couple of months earlier. I also know that a trip to Germany sperated his 10.12 100m and his 9.87 jogging into a headwind. So here are the questions that have come to my mind.
1. Do sprinters really benefit achieve 2% increases in speed from visits to to doctor and training over the time period Bolt did? I've never been a sprinter, and don't claim to know how much one can benefit from 2 months of training after several seasons of sprinting, but I wouldn't imagine that Bolt got that much quicker in that short of a time frame because the German doctor gave him a different PT program.
2. Why did Bolt's training partner get faster at the same time? Yohan Blake ran a much faster race (10.12 I believe) than he had this season right around the time Bolt ran his 9.87. It seems an unlikely coincidence to me that both men would be so much faster so suddenly at the exact same time because of training. They are not high school freshmen running track for their first season, so I think Coach Mills bringing in a new steroid is more likely.
3. What do we know, and not know about Jamaican drug testing? From what I have heard, it is significantly less than the already inadequate testing performed in the U.S. And while Jamaica does have track and field programs designed to expose sprinting talent, I still have a hard time believing an island with 2 million people and less advanced facilities manages to beat a country of 300+ million people for every year since 2008. I don't want to say Bolt isn't tested if he is, but let's be real- is the man actually being tested as much as would seem reasonable to deem him drug free?
The number of drug test cover ups over the history of T&F is not encouraging, as is the sudden rise of Bolt to 100m dominance. And yes, I'm aware Bolt didn't race the 100m till around 2007, don't bring that "new old information" here. I would contend without relatively complete 100m training, Bolt would not have run 19.75 by that point.
What do you guys think?
