Womens 5000 = Best Race of the Week

Wanna know why G. Dibaba is a LRC favorite and is still gonna show us some incredible races?

I have been searching for a video of the race and have yet to find more than the last 5min. Does anyone have a link?

That was a great race to watch. Took it right to her and did not let up. Took the fight right out of Dibaba. She couldn't even hold on for second. That's how you break a great athlete. Although Dibaba had to be tired. Ayana did what she had to do to win. Love it. Lot of talk about having team tactics. Glad not to see any of that crap in the highest level of competition. Track is individual except in relays. Every man woman for themselves. No love loss between Dibaba and Ayana.

Sort by "Ayana", today, and # of views.

That race looked like it was straight out of the EPO era.

Yes, it got off to the typical pedestrian start, but that didn't last very long. Huge move relatively early in the race. Guts, courage, commitment, and then some. Hugely impressive performance. A real exhibition of real racing.

Kiprop and Farah with their jog-sprints did nothing this week compared to what Ayana just did by actually racing 5000 meters.

That was both a flashback to what this sport used to be, and a window into what it could be again.

Congrats to Almaz Ayana -- the most deserving mid-distance or distance champion of the meet!

Agreed, best distance performance, but the Kenyans also ran tough in the men's 10K.

That being said, she ran that way because she had to. Front-runners are always either those who can't kick...

All I can think of when I read that the winner ran 8:16 for 3k during a 5k (a 3k PR after a semi, no less) is drugs. 6th on the all time list for 3k behind 4 that should have been thrown out years ago? Come on! Ridiculous.

Just youtubed it, WOW!!! DEFINITELY the best race out of all the ones I've seen, far more impressive than any of the men's distance races.

It was amazing to see her run the kick out of dibaba. I'm curious to see how dibaba will modify her training to prevent that in the future.

They have totally different styles, and Ayana's is much more suited to the distances.

She ran her last lap in 67 seconds in Beijing, and beat Dibaba by 17 seconds.
