Mo Farah's UNPRECEDENTED range

I agree. His range is incredible. Saying he is the best ever always pisses some people off though. No matter. I just like to enjoy seeing what he can do. I love watching him race. His time at the top is ticking though. Hopefully he can hold on through 2017 championships at least. After that I wonder who will take over the crown of current king of distance? Will it be one man, or more likely a different person winning each event? An unknown now or someone like Farah who will rise to prominence after a few years mid pack? Only time will tell.

His range is great but much of the amazement is because no one tries to have such range. Bekele's and Geb's ranges were much better (world records). Remember Geb ran a 3:31 indoors (it may have even been a championship race after rounds).

Bekele, Geb, Kipchoge are all guys I'd consider having significantly better range than Farah. Also, I wouldn't consider 59:30 and 27:08 to be world beating times. They are very good but they are both around a minute or so from the world records. World class not world beating.

So you think 13:50 is a world beating time? Hint: world beating does not mean what you think it means. I think you know this and are just choosing to be silly.

The reason why he is winning 5/10 three championships in a row despite his relatively slow PBs is the relatively weak competition. He wouldn't have won titles a decade ago. He is really a very fast 1500m guy competing in the 5/10.

The reason why the competition is weaker than before is two-fold.

Some of the talent gravitates toward the marathon (money incentive)

and the fact that EPO is not so widespread anymore. The latter is

the more important reason of the two.

Some people claim that he has never done a time trial. This is correct, but any meet director would be happy to organize one with good rabbits - I just

don't think MF would run as fast as Komen. Geb, KB etc.

That's why is not doing it.

Mo is the greatest runner today. Fantastic performances and kick.

Haha, funny that you guys are arguing over that word choice. I specifically used the term "world beating" to differentiate him from merely being "world class." No one in the world, currently, can BEAT him in a 10k, be it fast or slow.

He may not hold the world record, but he beats everyone in the world available to him.

And the distinction is important, because it is not as impressive for a 3:28 man to be "world class" in the 10k. It is shocking to be UNBEATABLE in the 10k and simultaneously run 3:28 1500s.

On the same point, to the poster who said GEB and BEKELE have better range--NO, THEY DON'T! That's the whole point! They were low 3:30s in their prime. I don't want to hear what they "could" have done.

The difference between low 3:3xxx 1500 and 3:28 is HUGE! It's the jump from merely awesome, like Evan Jager, to the all-time great milers in history, like El G and Cram.

Specializing in the 1500m he could run 3:26. This is better than his 12:53/26:4x

12:45 is a world beating time.

3:28 could indeed be world beating time, but those silly games won't work with Asbel Kiprop.

Geb and Bekele range is quite impressive given the fact that Bekele could run under 7:30 in the Diamong League weekend after weekend and also ran a 2:05 marathon with the last 15km alone! Geb 2:04.

Actually I'd say more impressive because they actually have also run under 12:40 and 26:30.

Those are world beating times if he beats everyone in the world with them. To me, the definition of world beating is beating everyone else in the world; like he has done for the last few years
