I have followed athletics for the past 2 decades fairly closely, but forgive me if I am overlooking someone;
is it correct to say there has NEVER been an athlete like Mo Farah in terms of range?
That is, someone who is one of the fastest milers of all time, yet can also run world-beating 10ks and half-marathons in the SAME year?
Forget over a career, like Webb or Rod Dixon; we are talking 3:28 1500m and 10k world champ in the same season. Not to mention Mo is faster than these guys at the short stuff AND the long stuff!!!
Steve Cram could run 3:28, but he sure as hell wasn't winning 10ks WC.
I remember in the 90's people thought Haile Gebre. could have such a range, as he won world indoor 1500. But he never actually did it--he never ran 3:28 that people may have theorized he could.
Am I correct? Mo Farah, after turning 30 and joining Sal, suddenly became the overall BEST distance runner the world has ever seen?
