Personally, I can run faster with more ease outdoors than on the treadmill. Is this your perception as well? I know a lot of people say they run a lot faster on the treadmills though...

Upside down
Treadmill.
I think the treadmill is harder. But I just hate the stupid thing.
I find the treadmill more difficult at the same given pace, even using a treadmill I've personally calibrated. The biggest part for me is probably being locked into an exact pace and not being able to casually take a few steps slower or faster depending on feel. The stride also feels less natural and I don't like having to be mindful not to step on the front of the belt, off the sides, etc. I'm sure the lack of diverse terrain and scenery also plays a mental factor.
Treadmill has no downhill. Much harder to keep my 5:45 recovery pace when I have the incline at 7%
it depends on who is running on the treadmill in front of me

my recovery days are at 5:44 pace at 8% incline
The treadmill is the hardest by far.
I only run for a minute on the treadmill at my outdoor 5000 meter pace.
Basically I run 1 to 2 mph faster outside on a track.
winner.

I'm just a slow hobby jogger so it is no surprise some of you are faster than me.

Michael Jackson could moonwalk his recovery days that slow.

I concur...the effort and no wind resistant on my dreadmill makes my lungs and legs work harder at first but once I get it used to it, it becomes a little easier until I reach up to 5 percent grade or higher. Then it becomes more difficult w/each increase and speed.
I'm WAY faster on the treadmill than I am on the roads. Hills absolutely kill me. But I'm faster on the track. I seem to get more motivated and just dig deeper.
Any kind of hill ruins me, though. I'm a big, smelly vagina.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
