NO. lol He wouldn't have gotten past the semis unless he had run considerably faster. You have to look at more than the final.

Still in shock. He was even surprised and pumped his arms at the finish.
Previous best of 45.55 in an open 400.
He now runs 45.00 at the end of day 1 of the decathlon.
Hard to believe that in the pre-professional era 47 years ago Bill Toomey ran 45.6 on his first day of the 1968 Olympics.
Indeed..................good thing he did it then and not now, given the level of hysteria I've been seeing here of late he'd be labeled a "doper" as well. Or was it the altitude perhaps. Or too many boxes of Wheaties maybe there were some mysterious "substances" added to them way back when. Its so interesting to speculate. I'm thinking that the chuckleheads who are all too frequent posters on these these boards 24/7 perhaps should get a life.

That said though, do decathletes have a (event) history of dopers? Just curious because I was explaining to my GF how the decathlete might be the best even in track considering athletes compete for points (i.e. win/loss is based on exploitations of strengths and weaknesses)
1988 Olympics Ben Johnson fails drug test. Decathlon starts 2 days later and Jurgen Hingsen is disqualified from the 100m in the decathlon for false-starting. Did he false-start once? twice? or three times? Yes, it was 3 times. Make of that what you will.

Saying "I think X is a doper" is not what I'd call hysteria. You know what sounds like hysteria? Posts like this:
"So do other sports, like soccer/football/baseball/basketball etc., have a bunch of killjoys who show up to games and message boards and can't shut the f**k up about doping? What would be the point? Either enjoythe races or go away and p**s off, man!"
Most doping accusations tend to sound quite reasonable. Because the people making them are (literally) being reasonable.
It's the people who desperately need doping to not be a thing, and can't enjoy their sport if anyone even mentions the D word ... these are the people who need lives.
I trained at UC Irvine with Daley Thompson and Edwin Moses before the '88 trials. I hate decathletes. They are better at everything in life! Daley would run 10.3 hundreds in practice. If he hadn't been addicted to quarter pounders(he ate two after every practice), he could have run 45!
Toomey's 45.6 at Mexico City is worth about 46.2 at sea level, still pretty stellar, only 1.8 seconds off Evans' WR in the same Games.
Whether Toomey used steroids is a matter of conjecture; he did point out they were not illegal until after Munich.

Look, we consider ourselves leaderes in the anti-doping movement but some of the talk at these worlds are driving me nuts.
Really rojo? Because you guys have ALSO been the leaders and purveyors and pushers of the SAME EXACT "(doping accusation) talk" that you claim is now "driving (you) nuts." Be honest for crissakes, but you guys have hyped up any and all "so-and-so is possibly a doper" story that have hit any and all "news" sources (i.e, the internet).
Remember all those years ago when you made your little chart demonstrating the huge drop in distance running world records and how they coincided with the introduction of EPO as a PED? Yes, of course you do. You ignored the fact that a correlation is in no way necessarily a sign causation, and ignored the fact that the drop in those times also strongly coincided with the introduction of prize/appearance $ into the sport, and the en masse participation of athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia (where in the past, there was only small participation from those nations). With that article, you pretty much declared that Geb, Bekele, Tergat, Komen and EVERY E. African that either came close to them or surpassed them later on (for instance in the marathon) were CHEATERS. This was the only conclusion one could reach from what you wrote.
And you have allowed rampant "so and so is a doper" threads for years now(remember the centro one?). Also, when the Salazar story broke, you 100% took the accusers side and didn't give any credence to Salazar's rebuttal, but basically mocked it. As I pointed out once before you guys also once took a PED's experts words and slightly altered them from saying "a false positive is almost impossible" to " a false positive IS impossible".
You guys have LED the rumor-mongering and the witch hunts and the overall belief system that "EVERYONE IS A DOPER, EVERYONE IS A CHEATER" mentality that now pervades our sport. You've led it, you've been purveyors of it, and you've pushed it.
Don't try and pretend this is not so, or that you don't have responsibility in this matter. If you want to apologize, do so. But don't suddenly now get on your high horse and act like you haven't acted in this same exact manner that you are now decrying.

Spot on. Man up, brojos. Nothing makes you look like a bigger sissy than pretending you didn't F up.
I agree with this. Letsrun needs back off the speculation and quick to jump on a story no matter how credible it may or may not be,
The coverage of the Worlds has been excellent. Keep things positive, If something legit goes down, report on it. Don't instigate. The Salazar thing was a good example of letsrun jumping on a story too quickly.

Do I love your site? Yes. Do I agee with Tyrone? Yes, yes, yes!
If not for what is described, your site would be my idea of perfect. As it is it can be so annoying I have taken days off (not during the WCs). Tyrone and the other comments immediately following are spot on, right down to the statistics truism that correlation does not equal causation. Proven cheats? Keep it up. Beyond that you are overstepping. I really don't care if you apologize. Just change. Please.
What a joke you are Rojo. So only you can call someone out as a suspected doper? What are your thoughts on your girl Radcliffe? Oops will I get deleted for asking?

What??? Everybody from the world's elite was using EPO in 1995. Did you fall from the Moon???

"Sick" athlete? What are you, twelve years old?! If Eaton were ever popped, which he probably will not be due to his Russell Wilson-affability, you two BroJos will be the first to claim you knew it all along. Here is some "reasoning", prior to Worlds, a former coach, knowledgeable and reputable, and extremely well-connected shared that he had been told and believed Eaton was on something. I believe this man, more so than anybody that still uses the word sick.
Eaton seems to be a decent all-around athlete, but I would like to see him try to hang with the best Crossfit athletes.
Actually, I would like to see the likes of Rich Froning at the US olympic trials for the decathlon to show just how good they are. I think people would be pleasantly surprised.
Don't even mention the roided Dutch 'nearly man' in the same sentence with
the great Ashton Eaton.
Ashton is clearly a doper.
If you actually believe he is clean your are utterly deluded.
