Nick Symmonds, running in Clayton Murphy's spot, would have finished 5th in the first semifinal, in 1:45.20. He would advance to the final on Aman's DQ.

Don't know about your reasoning, but I think Symmonds definitely could've made this final if he had improved since USAs.
Bang Bang would have as well. But neither were on the team. So what is your point?
Symmonds would have easily qualified for the final.

Does the OP have a crush on Symmonds? Who the F cares because he is not there. I bet you have a life size poster of him in your basement dwelling.
No he would not have. His number priority was arguing about money and sponsorship. No one makes that final without a laser focus on it. Nick's priorities were elsewhere, and as a result he's not there.
If he had signed the contract (no matter what it said) with the sole purpose of racing the best 800m runners in the world, he would have had a shot at the final.
However, he's not the runner he was a few years ago who could run a 47 sec 400m and a 3.35 1500m.
This season he's run 48 and a 3.59 mile. Plus, he lacks the focus to dedecate his energies only to training and competition!
How do you know he would have made it? Maybe the others in his semi would have responded faster if Nick had been there. No guarantees and personally I don't believe Nick believed he would make it either. All talk.
Nick wouldn't have gotten out of the first round.....if you want to play the speculation game.
Actually, if and that's a huge if, he was in tip top shap. He's a big idiot for manufacturing this controversy so he couldn't run.
Wow that is embarrassing for USATF.

How? The only people who should be embarrassed is Symmonds and the marketing department at Brooks.
Nick chose to watch the final from his sofa at home rather than the sofa in the athlete accommodation in Beijing.
Symmonds couldn't make the final in a weak indoor in 2014 where he only had one round.
