I will try to keep this short and sweet (it has the potential to be a few thousand words).
I am currently 22 and have been constantly injured since sophomore year of college. In cross country season I strained both of my hamstrings and developed a stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of my right foot (I believe it is near the end of the metarsal, closer to the heel than the toes if that makes sense). It was diagnosed via MRI.
I took 7 weeks off and gradually built back. My foot started hurting again with the same intensity of pain in the same area in April, so I took 4 weeks off and built up again, this time in Saucony Virratas...I previously did all of my training in vibrams and was healthy for years averaging 70+mpw. After one month of training I developed a tibial stress fracture (left side of my body, the foot stress fracture(s) was right foot).
Took months off, built up real slow, pain in foot again. Months off. Train. Pain in foot again. Months off.
I have not ran over 30 mpw since sophomore year a college, a mere shade of the 80mpw I once did. I've tried staying in minamalist shoes, saucony virratas, and Altras. It doesn't matter.
Seriously, after taking 6 months off at one point I went from 0 to 30 mpw in THREE MONTHS running 100% ON GRASS and my foot developed severe, acute pain again.
I've seen multiple doctors who are ignorant concerning running and flat out seem not to care. I don't know who to see, what to do, or what might be wrong with my foot. I desperately want to be able to train and compete again, and at 22 I feel like my most competitive years are quickly slipping away.
