I agree--he looked very good throughout the race. Congrats, Rupp.

If it weren't for the slow runners breaking up the rhythm of the lead pack, I think Rupp would have made a better fight for a medal. The guys getting lapped could have probably stepped out to lane 2 or 3.

Not all the Kenyans were looking smooth either. I'm not saying he definitely would have finished 3rd, but the guys getting lapped did nobody any favors.

Saw the blood on Rupp's shin at the finish, but didn't see the incident. Anyone know with whom he got too close? Which lap?

Looked like he came in contact with Mo Farah @23:41?

I would like to see Ventolin or somebody given us a performance comparison between how Rupp did in this race and his AR last year. I suspect a good argument could be made that this was Rupp's best 10000M performance ever all things considered (race conditions, heat and humidity).

I still wonder if Rupp has lost his top end speed permanently. But I don't think this race is an indicator of that. At that pace, I think he was truly out of gas on that last lap.

Why are you acting like he beat any Ethiopians, Ugandans, or Eritreans worth beating? Those guys were out of the picture before 20:00 into the race. Beating a bunch of ~27:30 guys isn't significant for a 26:40 guy.

"Very best in the world" is misleading. None of those guys are truly great 10k runners. The 10k is a soft event right now.

You may be right, but he looked absolutely heat exhausted after the finish. compare that to his 10K AR last year in Eugene. Here, his head went straight down and I don't think he really looked up for a few minutes. The heat/humidity was probably the real factor that did him in over the pace. London, Eugene, or any more temperate location would probably leave him more sting in the end relative to the others. Not saying he'd win, but just not finish with the sapped legs like today.

Agree. It was a supreme effort in a difficult year. He clearly has demonstrated he can hang with the best in the world and he doesn't lack guts. I too would like to know if the performance equates to better than the AR. I suspect so. We need a temperature and humidity measurement from inside the stadium as it was likely warmer insider than outside.

Why likely? Isn't it just as likely that there was shade in parts of the stadium?

Everyone keeps saying "the heat and humidity". Did anyone actually see measurements for these or is this just something we're assuming?

If you factor in humidity, it's even faster.
