damn
I would say sleep.
Unfortunately, a lot of college girls improve in seasons of food deprivation. I don't think this works long term, but it seems to have a positive effect for about a season. Sleep deprivation clearly has only a negative effect, so i think it is worse.
Impressionable female running youth out there: be aware I really do think it will hurt you long term to deprive yourself of food for training. The best women in the world are thin, but not starving themselves. If they were starving themselves, their career would only last one season, so they wouldn't have the benefit of years of cumulative training effect. Please don't starve yourself to run faster, it always ends badly after enough time.
Sleep deprivation. I have experienced both and loss of sleep is FAR worse.
Over a longer time period sleep deprivation would be worse. One could do permanent harm to the body through food deprivation, but one can always catch up on sleep. The impacts of sleep deprivation are 100% reversible, but the impacts of food deprivation may not be.
There was a period where I averaged less than 30 minutes of sleep a day for 14 days.
I was dellusional and my body ached everywhere and I felt like my insides were decaying.
I've never gone more than a day without food, but I've heard hunger can be very painful.
both are
