I'd expect he'd be a DNF.

It would be pretty cool if the IAAF made a massive admin error and all the start lists were mixed up. So the 100m guys had to race the marathon, 10000m guys in the decathlon, steeplers doing pole vault. It would be very entertaining.
With regards to Gatlin, I think he would struggle to break 4 hours if he had to do a marathon tomorrow. With 6-12 months of good training I think he would be around 3:05-2:55
I've seen many former sprinters (sub 11) running a marathon, for charity, fun, or whatever.
It's hard to understand for you distance guys, but they're, generally, in the 3:10-3:50 range.
Depends. Is it a marathon on a track?
Nope, lets say it is the Beijing Marathon which is happening at the world championships.
The real question is "Could Justin Gatlin run a marathon clean?"

I doubt there ever was a sub 11 sprinter who was able to run a 3:10 Marathon. 3:25 to 3:50, ok. But not 3:10.
Your range of marathon finish times and definition of a sprinter as someone sub-11 in 100m makes this post meaningless.

Ok, do you think that David Rudisha or Nijel Amos (sub 11 for the 100m) aren't able to run a 3:10 Marathon?
Moreover. Cas Loxsom has sub 11 speed for the 100m, and I think he would be able to run a 3:10 marathon without much effort, if he wanted.
In highschool I ran a 10.93 100m FAT I ran the 800 in college and topped out around the low 1:49's and 3 years after college I ran a 2:53 marathon. So yes some sprinters that can run sub 11 can run sub 3 hour marathons. I think the majority of people that could do it would be fairly high level 800 runners.

Tell that to Kerron Clement. 10.23 in 100m, 20.40 in 200m, 44.48 in 400m and 17 minutes for 5k (did XC in HS). Quincy Watts (former 400m WR holder) ran XC in school.
Mo Greene ran 17:30 something in 5k after retirement.
Curtis Beach ran 10:53 for the 100m and 3:59 for 1500m.
And not sprinters "stricto sensu", but:
Marcin Lewandowski: 10.53 in 100m,and 3:37 for the 1500m.
Yuri Borzakovskiy: 45.8-1:42mid and 3:42 (sub 4 mile equivalent) pb's
If many people are insisting in Mike Rossi 3:11 ability without sub 20 in the 5k, it's ridiculous to think that Clement would not be able to run a 3:10 marathon with a 17 minutes PB for 5k (without specific training).
Many sub 11 sprinters are capable to run 3:10 in a marathon, not neccesary elites, but if you require more elite names...
Harald Schmid
Alberto Juantorena
Mark Everett
Rudolph Harbig
Marcello Fiasconaro
Norberto Tellez
Sebastian Coe
Steve Ovett
Peter Snell

None of those guys can break 11 for 100m, but I agree with your original point.
His bones would shatter.
There are reports on twitter on Rudisha running 33.xx seconds for 300m. Whether it's 33.0 or 33.9, this is a strong sub 11 (from the blocks) indication.
Struggle to break 4-hour?
He wouldn't even get to the 5k mark.
You're jumping all over the place in this admittedly ridiculous thread.Rudisha isn't a sub-11 second sprinter. He's an 800m WR holder who can run 100m under 11 seconds. Completely different athlete.Try again: come up with someone who is a 100m/200m runner, who trains to compete at the 100m/200m, and whose 100m PR is sub 11 seconds. Now try to convince us that athlete can run a 3:10 marathon.

Not a 100m sprinter.

It depends if the sprinters are allowed 6 months to train for the marathon. Any healthy young male who's in shape & can build up to ~60mpw over 6 months should be able to do around 3:00

According to Dyestat, 774 high schoolers broke 11 in the 100m last spring (including one girl). Counting college and post-college athletes, there are probably 3000 other people who can run sub-11. Then there are the 400-1500m runners that could do it as well.
Clearly, one of these people could run 7:15 pace for 26.2 miles.
Could Justin Gatlin? tomorrow? no. If we gave him 6 months to train, I would think yes.
Some people are pretending that a sprinter, in a certain day, get up and run a marathon without training?
I remember you distance runners, that you prepare a marathon in -at least- 3/4 months.
Give Gatlin 3/4 months of specific training, and he is going to break 3:10. Of course, he could take some banned substances in the process, because in WMM's there's no budget for testing the 3:10 finishers group.
