I didn't run many miles in HS (avg 20 - 40 mpw depending upon season), but have ramped a lot in the last year. I regularly ran 75 mpw during my Freshman year of college with a huge ramp in intensity, too (e.g., 4 mile tempos at 5:15 pace; my HS 5K PR was barely sub 5:10 pace).
I didn't get a chance to race much, but ran a sub 26:00 8K early in the season, training through the race and with a bad cold.
I also ran a 14:4X in a 5K on the track.
I felt like my body finally started to acclimate to the increased volume and intensity last spring. This summer, I've peaked at 100 mpw and am continuing that volume for now. I'm a little tired, but nothing like my Freshman year.
My goal is to break 25:00 for an 8K and make the varsity team (top 7). Obviously, time will tell, but I'd love to get other's perspective on improvement after a huge build up in mileage. I'm hoping to smash through 25:00 and get to low 24:XX, but that would be over 1:30 improvement in an 8K. Am I aiming too high?
If my over / under was 25:00 would you take the over or under?
