Any suggestions on running shoes that work with Haglunds, or stories of what did and didn't work for you would be appreciated.

Had surgery a few months ago, so I have firsthand experience.
Shoes with soft or no heel counter enabled me to run more and work around the haglund's bump digging into the achilles. In my case, it was the Nike LunarRacer (with no heel counter). However, be sure to do everything you can to prevent compensating. Your body has created this bump because of a biomechanical hitch. So figure that out. Figure out your strength imbalance and your flexibility imbalance.
Back to me... I worked around it for a long time. However, the achilles is so damaged that I may never get back to full-time running.
I have haglund's deformity and I cut out the heel counter of every shoe I run in. Easy process and has kept me running without any problems. Surgery will remove the bump but I was told by my doctor there is still a chance it could come back.
My daughter had Haglund's deformity. Used to be an issue when she ran track in high school. As a rec runner as an adult it hasn't been an issue.
But is there a worse name for a condition than Haglund's deformity. I still remember her expression when told she had Haglund's deformity.
Stipe what did your recovery timetable look like? I just had the surgery at the end of September with a 5-10 percent achilles "cut" and sew job to remove the deformity and smooth the bone. I was instructed that I am 3 weeks no weight bearing, 2-3 weeks of weight bearing with a walking boot then a couple weeks of swimming/biking to regain some leg strength. Sound similar to your surgery?
If you can do without the support and cushioning, several versions of the Nike Free have elastic heels. I've had surgery on one foot and significantly large Haglund's deformity on the other, but I have no problem unless I try to run in shoes with a heel.
Yeah I just cut the hard plastic out of the back of the shoe also. I have been doing that for 6-8?+ years maybe longer i dont even remember but it works pretty well. Still get sore sometimes after fast running but not too bad just have to ice etc. Id rather cut the shoes than my feet heh.
