Does Clayton Murphy have the IAAF standard? Martin? Walker? Rutt?
Does Duane end up getting in with his 3:08?

Disregard that. 1:46 gets you in.
Soft.
An unsponsored collegiate athlete, as tweeted to Sally Bergeson (Oiselle Sally) after she encouraged the person to drop out as well.
I support Nick Symmonds and his effort but find it grating that Sally would leverage her fan base to encourage a college kid not to take advantage of a pretty cool opportunity. I found her tweet obnoxious.
Agreed. Obnoxious.
If he had a shoe deal and slid into the spot it would be an entirely different animal.
Where are all the Oiselle athletes. I hope they will be declining their spots (did any of them get them?)
Again, answered my own question.
Is Sally leaning on Gallagher to stay home? It's only right.
clayton and martin are running NACAC today winner gets a big Q if that makes a difference

They oughtta send old Berian. Picking the whole team through trials is a chronically failing strategy. Likelihood of medalling is indicated by more than performance in one meet.
Some may say that's unfair to the slower athletes who deserve a chance to get lucky. But you don't want your WC team to need luck.

How is a one meet performance a better indicator of winning a medal when a championship has heats and semis?
I think clayton but DK/NS wrote:

Clayton has the Q and unless Nicky signs he packs his unbranded and unlogoed best for the trip.
NACAC Champ: @ 1:49.01 7/14/2007 Golden Coachman, USA
Name Age Team Prelims Finals

Finals
1 Ryan Martin United States 1:50.49 1:45.79@

2 Clayton Murphy United States 1:50.54 1:46.38@

3 Jamaal James Trinidad & Tobago 1:50.69 1:47.07@

Berian has the TWO fastest times in the U.S. This year.
As far as I can tell, it should go like this, for guys that have the standard
1. Clayton Murphy (4th at Nats) 1:45.59
2. Shaquille Walker (6th at Nats) 1:45.58
3. Michael Rutt (7th at Nats) 1:45.47
4. Duane Solomon (8th at Nats) 1:45.56
5. Jesse Jorgensen (9th at Nats) 1:45.76
6. Boris Berian (10th at Nats) 1:43.34
(5th place Ryan Martin doesnt have the 1:46.00 standard)
So he is WAY down on the list...
Clayton has said that he will accept the position if it is offered to him. No surprise there. He did mention in an interview that he would prefer Nick to have this resolved and keep his place on the team. A great talent and classy young man.

Yeah. I don't even know why they have rounds at the World Champinships.
Just line up the fastest 8
Or better yet, give medals to the 3 fastest on the year without even having a race.
Bergson's Tweet is ludicrous. She gonna tell Heather Lieberg, who's 35 or 36 and has made her first international team in the marathon, to stay home, too? Or are only 800-meter guys supposed to stay home? I mean, help me out with the logic and reason and yeah, the decency here.

Martin got it on time with his NACAC win but he would have been given an auto Q for the win anyway
methinks murphy let martin have the win incase they did not run the standard thus Qing him should it be needed- seems to be a kid with class.

Name an American who was left home who would've won a medal at the WCs or Olympics.
I assume "Transparently Stupid" refers to yourself.
The difference is that 800 meter guys would not otherwise being going except for some bullshit dispute.

All non Nike athletes would have the same dispute, no? Why should Sally send her 'Non Nike' athletes to the meet when she is encouraging other athletes to make a sacrifice in protest.
Let her put her money where her mouth is and pay her athlete to not go in protest of USATF's/Nikes's policy.
Anything else is pure hypocrisy.
Dan O'Brien is a decent example. Also one that normal people remember. Dan vs Dave is a pop culture moment and Dan would later switch sponsors from Reebok to Nike.

It's not, I said. The whole season is the best indicator.
Getting through heats and semis over a period of a few days is all well and good but it doesn't beat a consistent strong season. The unlucky strong athlete who has a bad day is a better prospect than the lucky weak athlete who has a good day.
It's also much better for a sport to have everything matter. People like football because every game counts, you can't just lose every game and then win your last game 100 to nothing and qualify for the playoffs. Better for the entire season to be the "trials," with everyone chasing top 3 status instead of just a Q.
