Reading about how Bill Bowerman would make shoes for his athletes using a waffle iron, I started thinking about how I might be able to do something similar. I'm always making compromises with shoes and spikes since none seem to fit just right, so having some spikes built for my feet would solve that.
I'm guessing I could build the upper from commercially-available fabric using a sewing machine and the soles from polyurethane or rubber using a waffle iron or griddle. How difficult would the whole process be, and could I actually get a good result with no previous experience? Anybody else ever done this?
