Hi there all! Long time no read.

So let me shoot straight to the point. I have been battling a lower right abdominal issue that seems to flare up within a mile or so of continuous training runs. This issue has been ongoing for about a year now. The first time I have realized my aches and pains was after racing in the Sea Isle 10 miler while racing for Wildwood Beach Patrol. After that scene in life I was sure it wasn't nothing too tremendous to worry about so I trained out in Colorado (a waste of time because of my pain) and then raced or should I say ran in a 2:37 debut Philadelphia marathon. After those days of running I have stayed off of my feet and have had numerous appointments for blood work, ultrasounds, MRI, xrays, catscans, etc. As a result of many, nothing has come back clear in stating what is wrong with me. The only possibly conjunction junction in my body has built up fluid in my pelvic region issued by my family doctor. I have to say I'm obviously stumped on how to go about getting back on the roads to run and be happy.

My personal background:

-23 year old male

-Injury prone throughout college and high school

-Diagnosed with colitis in fall of 2011

-and the pain is in the area of my lower right abdominal area, upper right groin

I'm thinking this could be a sports hernia/ athletic publigia situation, but Once again...my family doctor, doctors at local hospitals, my orthopedic doc, and my past physical therapist said it's not sports hernia.

Please get back to me with some input in regards to this ongoing problem.

I have treated several people in the past with pain in the same area. All their tests came back negative. What fixed them was doing trigger point work on the external obliques. If you Google external oblique trigger point it will show you where it is and where the referral goes to. Worth looking in to, especially if you use too much torso rotation when running.

Not sure if this helps at all, but I've had something similar that turned out to be a constantly strained psoas.

We have a winner. Go to julstro.com and find the info about the psoas muscle. There is a simple stretch that helps.

Most doctors today are complete deadbeats who will do nothing for you except prescribe NSAIDs that you could get over the counters.

You can also go to a massage therapist and have them work on your psoas.

I quit running when I was 19 because of the problem as nobody knew what the cause was then. When I was able to run some at 37, after 6 months the psoas went into spasms again. This time I was told about the julstro site and did the sink stretch a few times a day while taking 4-5 weeks off running. I have not had a problem since and that was 12 years ago.

He is the endocrinologist in Texas who provides treatment to many of Salazar's athletes.

maybe your "colitis" acting up when running triggers decreased Gastrointestinal blood supply.

Since pain does not start until a mile in- I'm thinking colitis-all my injuries hurt the most when I start- if you are truly pain free the first mile- injury seems unlikely. Would recommend visit to a GI specialist. Colitis will often only be seen with a 'scope. Perhaps your colitis had worsened as often it does

Thanks, I was actually most definitely thinking about visiting a GI specialist, but I kind of wanted to make sure all of my pieces were still in tact before I started on another venture. I know I could simply look this up online,but what happens internally when a colitis problem does worsen? Thanks for the response
