And did we ever figure out what his 800m time was in HS?

What's that I smell? Doo doo from a Bull?
17x7 is 119 mpw. 8.5@7 min pace on the tmill in the morning and the same distance at night, got down to 149 from 230. Did he ever race? Actually, I'm more impressed by the succinct writing, helped by an editor probably but pretty solid.
so people good at things are also good at other things? Who would have thought

Why?
I heard a story about him vomitting up his spaghetti to lose weight to run faster
Liar, Liar...
Eminem is a joke.
"I ran to the point where I started to get injured. All the constant pounding from the running began to tear up my hip flexors."
Sounds about right.
shady will f*cking kill you
No way in hell he was ever running near 119 miles per week. Many top college athletes and pros arnt touching 119 weeks and you think this former drug abusing, alcoholic with no responsibility was putting in this kind of mileage? He was probably putting in 30 miles, if that.

This was my first thought when I read the article.
But then I thought about it a bit more. Many of the traits common in the runners that are doing 100+ MPW/otherwise training many hours a day--OCD, tendency towards addiction, extreme perfectionism--are things that Eminem almost certainly has. If he became fixated on, say, burning exactly 2000 calories/day, it's entirely possible that he would spend hours and hours on a treadmill every day, just to hit that number.
I doubt he started out running 7:30 miles for 17 miles a day. But I would believe that he may have had a point in his life where he was running the amounts described in this article.
Shame he didn't hop into an 800 afterwards so that question could be settled once and for all.
Corroborates what he said here in 2009. But it sounds like he only did the high mileage for a very short time.
Did anyone hear Eminems recent freestyle? It was good but what makes it amazing is that it was all from the top of the dome ! A real freestyle ! His flow has changed much over the years but Eminem proved why he is still the best rapper alive.
Typical addictive persons outlook on exercise and health.
I dont know why people are impressed with what he did. Its obvious he was binging on exercise like he was on booze and drugs..and it was never going to be a long term thing.
People like MnM are addicts for life on one thing or another.
Pretty much with you on this. Instead of a ~120-ish binge, I'd rather see him do 70mpw, min., EVERY week, for at least 1 year.
Just like the story of how Wilt Chamberlain slept with 20,000 women. He slept with 3 in a weekend and then his friend extrapolated it over 40 years. No way Eminem ever ran 119 miles. He probably ran the 8.5/8.5 double one time and sensationalized it.

No responsibility? Putting aside whether he ran 117 miles per week, by all accounts he was a good father to his daughter. And he was responsible enough to write songs that entertained millions and made him millions. (And, oh yeah, garnered the respect of serious poets and other "literary" types.) What are you responsible for?
I really tried to respond to this but just couldn't get myself to...

It's pretty common for people coming out of rehab to replace one addiction with another. It's not surprising to me that a wiry guy in his mid thirties is capable of running 120 mpw at 730ish pace. You do realize that it takes a whole lot of energy and commitment to make it in the music industry right? It's not like he's just some lazy bumb.
1:54.7 as a junior. Discussed here, FB, Milesplit, and elsewhere. I was not at the meet although he beat one of my runners soundly.
