8/1/59 Al Confalone wins New England States AAU 15K Championship in 51:37.4.
8/1/59 Parry O’Brien breaks world record for the shot-put with a throw of 63’ 4.”
8/1/59 Don Bragg pole vaults 15’ 5” to equal the 3rd best mark of all-time.
8/2/58 Jerzy Chromik Poland sets a 3,000 meter steeplechase world record of 8:32.0.
8/2/64 Herb Lorenz wins 9.2 mile Cobbs Creek race in 47:02 over Browning Ross, Tom Osler, and Ed Dodd.
8/3/53 Alan Mimoun beats Jim Peters in a 6 mile race 28:37.6 vs. 29:06.6.
8/3/55 Roger Moens Belgian sets a world record 1:45.7 for 800 Meters.
8/3/56 Istvan Rozsavolgyi Hungary sets a world record in 1500 meters of 3:40.6.
8/4/50 Emil Zatopek Czechoslovakia broke his world record for 10,000 meters with a 29:02.6.
8/4/52 USA breaks world record for 2 mile relay in 7:29.2. The team was Bill Ashenfelter 1:55.3, Reggie Pearman 1:50.2, John Barnes 1:52.6, and Mal Whitfield 1:51.1.
8/4/56 Dean Thackwray BAA wins a 10 mile scratch race over Tom Ryan in 51:06.
8/4/62 19 year old Bruce Kidd U of Toronto set a North America record for 6 miles of 28:09.4.
8/4/62 Abbie Hoffman Toronto set a Canadian women’s 880 yard record of 2:10.8.
8/5/53 Emil Zatopek does 14:03 in the greatest 5,000 meters of all time with Kuts 14:04, Kovacs 14:04.2, and Anafriyev 14:15.
8/5/56 Vladimir Kuts – Russia runs 28:57.6 for 10,000 meters in a world record attempt.
8/6/58 Glenn Davis sets a world record in the 400 meter hurdles in 49.2.
8/6/58 Herb Elliott – Australia set a one mile world record of 3:54.5.

8/12/60 Ralph Boston broke Jesse Owens’ long jump world record with a leap of 26’ 11 1/4.”
8/12/60 Hal Connolly broke his world record in the hammer throw with a mark of 230’ 9.”
8/13/61 John J. Kelley wins Mount Washington Road Race in 1:08:54 in record time over Larry Damon in this 8 mile climb.
8/13/61 Moses Mayfield captures Middle Atlantic RRC 6 mile cross-country in 34:19 over Tom Osler.
8/14/62 Vic Zwolak captures AAU 9 mile run in 46:34.8 in NJ pm the Cooper River Parkway.
8/15/62 Jim Beatty shatters American record for 3,000 meters in 7:54.2 bettering Max Truex mark of 8:03.6.
8/18/62 Mary Quinn wins the women’s division of Pike Peak Marathon in a record breaking 4 hours 15 minutes for 12.5 miles over Katherine Heard and Julia Chase.
8/18/63 Francis Carver Penn AC wins 9 mile Olympic Development run in a course record of 45:06.5 in beating Moses Mayfield, Browning Ross, and John Loeschorn.
8/19/61 Gar Williams wins his 5th Central AAU title with a first place at 20K in 1:16:08.4.
8/19/62 Pete McArdle wins the National 25K championship in 21:58.6 over Fred Norris and Gordon McKenzie.
8/20/61 Pete McArdle wins Staten Island 6 Mile road run in 29:45 over Jim O’Connell.
8/21/63 Jim Green wins the Haverhill 10 Miler in 49:32 over Klaus Arons and Tony Sapienza.
8/23/64 John J. Kelley captures National 25K championship at the NY World Fair in 1:29:00.8 on a hot day.
8/24/62 Jim Beatty set his 5th American track record within 6 days with a 13:45 for 5,000 meter.
8/25/63 Jim O’Connell wins 4th annual Milk Run 25K in NY in 1:27:38.2 over John Loeschorn. The race started at Columbus Circle and ended at Van Cortlandt Park.
8/26/56 Ted Corbitt wins National 30K championship in 1:38:47. The race was held in Cincinnati.
8/28/59 Gar Williams UCTC wins National RRC 10 Mile Championship over Hal Higdon in 55:20.
8/28/60 Ted Corbitt wins 9 Mie Camden Run in 50:19 over Dick Donahue.
