Second this guy, and I took grad-level nutrition as well. If you're not getting enough magnesium (or replenishing what you lose), taking magnesium can actually have more of a "stimulant" effect, make you wired, and not sleep deeply (and thus dream more). I tried the whole magnesium thing 2 yrs ago and experienced exactly this.
I'd recommend playing with lowering room temperature, sheets, comforter, a cooling pillow, and blackout curtains.
