Great if she's in shape.
In the article:
The 31-year-old Ethiopian has won 2 Olympic games and 2 world championships gold medals and broke four time world records in 5000m and 10000m.
Breaking the 10000m WR? I don't think so.
Maybe if she finds out there is a 10000 in Portland on August 9th, she can run that to get the 10000 standard, and then she can double.
Since she has announced she will run the 5000 against Genzebe Dibaba and Almaz Ayana she is probably in good shape and if she is in good shape, there is no one running the worlds who can beat her (Genzebe Dibaba is doing the 5k and 1500, Tirunesh just had a baby, Ayana has never run a 10000 meaning she does not have the standard, Vivian Cheruiyot who won the Kenyan trials this morning would be Defars main challenger, but she is not in top form).
What a matchup - although team order will prevent them racing each other.
That's awesome! I think most people had written her off!Still three weeks away though... With all the drama the EAF causes, we never really know who will be on the start line till they're seen actually on the line... I remember last championship when we found out two weeks before that they made Dibaba and Defar choose only one event, which basically ruined the women's distance races for me because nobody was beating either in their respective events.

If she's not in top shape, perhaps Ethiopia asked her if she would be willing to set the race up for Dibaba.
If anyone, I would say they would be setting it up for Ayana. Defar and Tiru never really seemed to get along, and I do not think that Defar would agree to help Genzebe.

Help a Dibaba beat another Ethio? Seems highly unlikely. Maybe to help Ayana by taking the pace....

Not likely, for the simple fact that the competitors at THAT level get in races because they believe they can win. They don't give a damn about making sure someone else win.

Please also post a link to the photo of her used in the thumbnail on the LetsRun main page. This is Meseret Defar we're talking about, a real beauty.

Highly unlikely ... the Ethiopians with even remote chance of winning do not cooperate like that... at least have not recently
She does clean up well!
