Tonight I will rent either Unbroken or McFarland.
Which is the better movie? Which has better running scenes?

I've heard very good things about MacFarland. Unbroken was a rare and terrific book but it's a very bad movie, a real missed opportunity. I wouldn't recommend it to runners or to anyone else
I have never hear of McFarland but Unbroken is a decent secular, Hollywood adaptation of the book. The movie isn't really about running, though.
Unbroken isn't about running and if you've read the book you're going to be very disappointed. I think HBO should have purchased the rights to the book and created like a 3 part episode miniseries out of it. it would have been fantastic.
McFarland is a running movie and is good. its a Disney movie so keep that in mind. I found it entertaining and enjoyed it.
Definitely would not recommend Unbroken. I watched it like a month ago and decided to apply his mindset to my training, specifically the part where he holds up the cylinder for a loooong time. So i set out to do a workout, and I did 15x1mile as hard as I could. The for the rest of the week I couldn't move my legs. Dont rent it man....
Thanks guys. I'll go with McFarland.
I knew that Unbroken wasn't primarily about running, but I hoped there were at least some good running scenes it.
Just like Forest Gump isn't about running...
McFarland is mostly about running but is a little more immature in nature where as Unbroken has a few small parts about running but is more like a long, slightly entertaining documentary about the shit Zamperini went through.
McFarland is a nice lite view.

Ya, this is something that concerned me. It's by Disney.... Is it a children's movie? Would an adult runner enjoy it?
I have not yet seen McFarland--just keep forgetting about it.
Unbroken is okay. I liked the running scenes and love Zamperini's story but the movie (and the book quite honestly) miss out by not telling the story of what happened when he returned. To end it with the liberation of the camp, to me, does a disservice to what makes it a great story. Zamperini (whom I got to meet) fights some demons, overcomes alcohol abuse, finds salvation and forgiveness.
I enjoyed it, and I'm 20. My parents also seemed to enjoy it. It was nothing super pumped up or spectacular, but like someone else said, it's a nice lite view. Mildly entertaining. Both are based on true stories so take your pick and you'll learn something either way. haha
Go with Ex Machina, that women robot will make yer groin twitch , garuntee.
