Mackey joins Shannon Rowbury, Lauren Fleshman and Ben True as the only Americans to win a DL 3k/5k with her 8:52.99 victory today in Stockholm.
Mackey wasn't with the leaders with 600 to go but she fought her way back to the lead group at the bell and kicked well in the home stretch for the win. Final lap was 63.19 leader-to-leader, so likely in the 62-range for Mackey.
A very nice win for Mackey, but this was a very weak field by DL standards (even if it was an official DL event). No Dibaba, Cherono, Ayana, etc. (in fact, no Kenyans in the field at all) plus Molly Huddle withdrew prior to the race.
Still, a great race and a seven-second PB (old PB 8:59.41 from two years ago).
