So a coach at this camp I'm at went on a 30+ minute rant about how distance runners are like race cars. Indy 500 engines only last one race and they replace tires often, refuel and such regularly. His point was that we, as runners, are more likely to get injured and burned out (even more susceptible to the common cold) because we are "finely tuned machines" unlike the average overweight joe on the street. He closed by telling us that we have hit our peaks and our fitness only goes down from here. Thoughts?
