Any word on how the pursuit for a new distance coach is going? Any idea the direction they are going in the search? Any chance of turning around this program or idea where it's heading?

I have no idea how the search for a new coach is going. But when i was there we went through 3 different middle distance/distance coaches. It honestly is a terrible place to go run if you have any desire to get better. They have no idea how to train runners and almost everyone gets overtrained. Most runners barely even make it to outdoor after running indoors.
Though, the chicks there are some of the hottest I've ever seen (albeit spoiled and pretentious). That's coming from an SMU grad!
Are they really dumb, though? I get the impression everyone at that school is pretty stupid.
I almost went there because I liked everything else about the school and a chance to run in their conference. Ended up going to a much stronger D1 program and hope they can turn it around!

I live in Ft. Worth. Don't knock it as a running city. It's a really good running city, at least for a city in the South. From TCU you can be on a river trail in about a mile and a half.
The team maybe terrible (there #1 scorer would have been out of the top 7 of every other school but 1), but don't knock the city. I just looked at their roster and was surprised to see a kid from my high school was their #1 guy last year as a freshman. I'll will root for them now.
They can only get better! Even if you were coach of the year and knocked off 1:30 a man for 8k, people might not notice as I think they'd still finish 6th in the league. Start small, gets kids under 26 minutes for 8k. That seems doable. I should just send my dogs out running with the team everyday. They'll get them in shape.
I doubt they get any financial support and it's hard to get some kid to come walk on at a private school with no tradition.
I think old tcu runner was talking about the program, not the location. Fort Worth is great for running as long as you can stand the heat and humidity.
Heat is the new altitude.
The biggest problem is that the head coach will not give any scholarships to distance or middle distance kids. So the only people that can afford to walk on at TCU are really rich kids. And like an earlier poster said the extra curricular activities at TCU (amazing girls) usually draw kids away from the team after a year or so. My freshman year we had I think 12 or so new freshman and by junior year that number was down to 5. Mostly due to people leaving to join fraternities and not getting enough attention from coaches. The other problem also is that the girls get much more attention than the guys. We would meet at the trails for practice and our coach would literally tell us to run as many miles as you feel like. I would estimate that more than half of the cross country team runs less than 40 miles a week
No for fact women have scholarships and as far as guys heck like the coach or not if you run 800 for example at 1:52 and could go up or down sure you vould get some money if you 1:54 guy plenty of schools will give you money just not them
What you kids don't understand is that head coaches often have to prioritize and strategize however they see fit based on where they see the potential strengths of their program. The head coach has directed his new assistant every year not to put anything into the men's program unless they can recruit a 1:49 guy there - no, 1:52 will not get you jack sh!t. He has decided to cede all distance points to Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. That's his prerogative. Even the women don't get much for the same reason. This is also why you have a new distance coach every year - every distance coach out there sees this as nothing more than a foot in the door to a P5 conference - a stepping stone you get the hell out of as soon as you get the next opportunity. You can pretty much figure that out with a little research hand know what you're singing up for. If you don't like it, don't go there.
90% accurate you know what you sign up for, if u take jobs the are tradtional sprint programs. Hell surre LSU coach knew what he was up against prob not gone get 3,000 and 5000 kids but can def get 800 type and develop. But they do have money tied in in women distance but just does not show
I'm a kid who's being recruited by the coach right now. I was told that you pretty much had to be an immediate scorer at b12's to get money but that they had friends in the financial aid department. Even if you don't get any support you're still an athlete at a p5 conference, and get the same perks which is a plus.
There is some very horrible English being written here. By horrible, I mean REALLY bad.

Which coach? Are you a distance runner?
