I have run 2:53 twice this summer in training. Once going out hard, the other going out even. I also never broke 28s for 200m. Is this considered avg speed for my 10k fitness?

And your 10K PR is ?
31:48 here, 4:05 1500 m
Mid 2:4x 1k PR, never have broken 2:10 in the 800 or 16:59 in the 5K.
Last year of high school I ran 2:34; 4:01; 31:00. A 32:30 guy who can't break 2:50 is a marathoner in development.
I ran two 10ks roads (32:42 and 32:19) this past month. The 1k isn't a race but done in practice. Both of them were done fresh and I had a guy to run with.
Thanks, doesn't seem to be a lot of guys with this speed problem
What's your mile PR? I'd guess that a guy who can't break 2:50 for 1K would have a hard time breaking 4:45 for the mile.
Don't fall for the "I'm just a marathoner" BS.
You should be doing 1K repeats in 3:05-3:10.
You should also be doing 400m repeats in 68-71.
If you do both of those, your 1000m will come down, and your 10k time, etc.

Yup.
On the other end of the spectrum, I can run 2:05 for 800 but haven't cracked 35:00 for 10k :(
Never ran a mile race, but I ran 4:23 for 1500m. I never ran much track, my 3000m is around 9:20 from years ago. My 5k road is 15:44. I ran 15:49 not too long ago. The guy that I ran those 1k told me to jump on the track once a week with him for faster stuff, he seemed disappointed and surprised in the first session, we raced and pushed together in both 10ks but once on the track he's much superior, he's running the times mentioned above. 2:30low 1000m and 4:03 1500m.
Thanks for the input, I obviously have weakness. Ill try working on it consistently (weekly)
Where is LetsRun Employee 1.1?
Can run a 4:25 mile, but I'd be surprised if he could break 60 in a quarter.
You are certainly a little slower than expected on the speed end of things. The first time I was able to run under 2:50 for a 1k (freshman year of college), my other times were: 800 - 2:08, 1500 - 4:21, 3000 - 9:36, 5000 - 16:30. I never ran a 10000 around then, but I would guess somewhere over 34 minutes.
I would guess my line right now is something like 800 - 1:56, 1500 - 3:55, 5000 - 14:50, 10000 - 31:00. And right around 2:30 for a 1k; I think I would be hard pressed to be in sub-32:30 shape if I could barely go under 3 minutes for 1k.
I'm the same way. I've run low 31s several times on the track, and sub-31 on the roads. I can probably dip just under 2:50, but 30 flat is top end for me in the 200.
sub 32:30 road, sub 4:02 1500 thus 2:50 shouldn't be a big problem, however never broke 2 flat for the 800

Replying-to-self just to tip my hat to you guys with that kind of endurance. I am humbled.
